worth making a complaint or not?

So looks like we're heading down the path of another miscarriage.

Just to rub a little salt into my wounds, I rang work to tell them I wouldn't be able to come to work for the rest of the week and why, I'm still floored by the response I got from my female boss.... "thats a shame we're already so short on people"...

thats all I got, a guilt trip!

so I'm thinking of making a formal complaint, worth it or not?

Sorry your boss was an insensitive idiot :( I'd wait a little while until you aren't super emotional and if you are still angry/upset about it make a complaint or put it in writing. I know I couldn't talk about what was happening without breaking down when I had both mine.

If you have the strength to do it, then YES!! (I say this because I always want to and then never have the guts!) That is completely inappropriate and disgusting to say.

Oh man, I am sorry that on top of the grief of facing the loss of your pregnancy, you also have to face the cruelty of insensitive, selfish people :hug: That is not fair.

Who would you be able to complain to? If you can, then, when you are ready, I would. Even if the person in question is simply told to remember sensitivity for others etc. Sometimes people just dont get it and lose perspective and I hope that this is just the case and not stemming from cold cruel-heartedness.

I agree.
If you feel you are up to it now, do it. Otherwise, write down the particulars and come back to it when you are feeling up to it. That is inappropriate and insensitive, and nobody should have to hear that.

:jawdrop:That's terrible! What an insensitive woman. Yes, I would complain but I would wait (as a PP suggested) until I was feeling calmer so that I am not written off a 'emotional and hormonal'.

I feel strongly about this because I faced similar insensitivity during my first mc back in '08. My (female) boss at the time said to me when I was having time off for scans/bloods etc due to bleeding "Well this can't go on for 9 months, you have a job to do." I was so upset. I burst into tears and said "Of course it can't! I"m either going to miscarry or everything will stop and it'll be okay." When I did lose the baby, I went in to work because I was afraid of what would happen if I called in sick again. I spoke to her, and said that I couldn't be there today and that a m/c had been confirmed. She said "Oh well, it was unplanned anyway, and something was probably wrong with it. Better now than later. Are you sure you need to go home? That's not going to make any difference now." I was extremely upset......... for obvious reasons. And yes, I went home. But I never made a complaint. I regret that.

Sorry for the life story.... but I get where you're coming from. As if you aren't sufferening enough, then to have to endure such hurtful, thoughtless comments. :hug:
