[advice] Bike trailer/stroller - good brands, what to look out for

I used to ride regularly, and am considering getting a bike trailer so i can get out again with the kids. Had a look on gumtree/ebay but confused by the different brands etc. Would prefer a good quality second hand one than buy a new 'cheap' one. What brands are good?

Also, i live rural and there are no designated bike paths or bike lanes, many of the roads are dirt roads. would it be feasible to ride around here with a bike trailer, or would i be driving and then riding.

I know my girlfriend didn't like the bike trailer as she felt it was too much of a drag.

It's worth checking out the Choice website. You might have to pay for the article but it's worth it to check out which ones are rated safest.

There have been a few threads around on this - I think I posted one a while back and it was fairly split from people who recommend the Croozers, which are a bit excy but resell reallywell and are very well built and sturdy - and others who love their Big W or Kmart ones!! Good luck!!

depends how much you want to spend do you want one that becomes a pram ?? we got a cheapie from big w and its fantastic... I only paid $80 but ithink they are around $199 normal price.. if you wnat to spend big $$$ the taga bikes are fantastic if only hubby would part with the money I would have one in a shot LOL

Chariot! Without question! We have had a cheapie, just for groceries. It was a rough ride, the wheel fell off once on the road, after two years the frame got a bit wobbly. It served its purpose, but now that we own a chariot (got an ex demo for a very reasonable price) we are both prepared to propose marriage to it. It rides like a dream, it's slim and sturdy, and it has so many nifty features. They are just so well designed.

And they can totally handle dirt roads. You can buy thm with an offroad kit, or probably retrofit if you go second hand. All win.

You certainly don't want a cheapie off road and th chariots are excellent.

I bought my hubby one - Pacific. It at the time had the largest weight capacity around at 36kgs. He really liked it - so much so that when I suggested selling it now the big girls were on bikes and Miss A could go on a bike seat that he said no, and he'd rather use the trailer.

They really hold their value though. Definitely worth it.

We had a croozer! Awesome! You can change it onto a pram so when you arrive at where you are riding you can still push the kids around...I think it was around $400. But we'll worth it...we sold it though cause the kids have their own bikes now:-(

That is something to think about. The resale after you have finished using it. We bought a croozer second hand on eBay, which was really good and sold it after for almost the same as what we paid. So it was overall cheaper than buying a cheaper one and having it fall apart.
