Anyone taken thyroxine?

My FS has just put me on thyroxine (50mg) because my tsh is 5.

My question to anyone who has taken it, how long before your tsh level lowered??

Not taken it, but used to work for a consultant who prescribed it.

We used to order blood tests after 2 weeks and 6 weeks from starting the medication and see a difference, so I'm guessing it should start to fall almost immediately.

I am on it permanently, (100mg 6 days, 150mg 1 day) started when pregnant with DD and am pretty sure it came down very quickly, blood tests were quite frequent 2 weeks sounds about right. Now I still have checked every 4 months or so - I can normally tell if am taking too much or too little now but took about a year to get to that point. ( I have Hashimotos so thyroid antibodies )

I'm wanting it to work quickly because it should be at a level of one for fertility and I've just started and ivf cycle! Egg pick up will be in about three and a half weeks. Transfer five days later....

Hopefully it will hit the system running!!

Thinking about it more it must work pretty quick because when my level was 13 and I was pregnant my GP got me into see endocrinologist that day so could get started as is very important right level in first tri - if it didn't work quick would not have been the urgency.

It'll take a week or two, probably, and level out around 6 weeks.
