Slings/wraps and carriers!

Another post!! Lol.

I have an ergo with the infant insert. With DD1 I could only use the insert for like a month because then it became too uncomfortable. I like the ergo but DD1 doesnt seem to. I think its the whole being pushed into mummy and not being able to see? She is 22mths old.

I also have the sleepy wrap which I liked much more when she was littler than now because I could face her outwards. It was a bit annoying with the length of it and tying and wasnt as comfy as the ergo but would fit a newborn in it more comfortably I think.

So, with the new baby coming, I am guessing I will need to use a carrier more often for the new one while DD walks or goes in the pram. Looking at other styles of carriers/wraps.

How are mei ties? Manducas? are they basically the same as an ergo?
And slings? Do they hurt your back? I have back problems so need ones that wont hurt.
What other types are there?

I used my hug a bub when my boys were tiny as It was far more comfortable than the ergo...yes it too longer to Putin but I would put it on before I left the house.
Do you have the new ergo infant insert or the old one? The new one is much better, I havetheold one and really don't like it!

A stretchy wrap is great with little babies. When are you due? They can be hot in summer.
Ergos are really optimised for bigger babies, which is why they come with a separate insert for newborns.
A manduca is very similar to an ergo, but adjusts more and has an inbuilt infant harness. A mei tai is structured similarly to a soft structured carrier like the ergo, but has straps that are tied, rather than buckles. It makesit more adjustable for a better fit, but some people find them fiddly (I don't think they really are much harder to do up, or take any longer, though)

Other options include a ring sling - a quick carry for newborns - or a woven wrap, which you can use on front, side and back - they are not stretchy. The way you wrap it is similar to the stretchy warps on the front, but you wrap around hte baby, rather than wrapping first then putting them in.

There's a post here that goes over the main types of carriers out there. If you haven't already, you could also seek out local babywearing groups in your area - on facebook - and get along to some meetups to try a few different things.

YeH she goes on our backs now and hates it. She wasn't worn much as an older baby so now she is a toddler she just wants to walk everywhere.. Hoping if I use a carrier enough this new baby will be more used to it and will last longer!

This bub will be due late june so winter but in townsville it will warm up in sept so bubs will only be like 1.5mths old.. The ergo we have is the original and I think the sport would be way better up here being a lighter fabric

You said you had back problems, so I'd be inclined to use wraps or structured carriers that distribute weight evenly across your shoulders and hips. I'd avoid anything that is one-sided or hip carries. My osteopath kept telling me off because I'd carry Sparrow on one side only & it was taking my pelvis out of alignment.

Woven wraps (not stretchy) are great. Don't be intimidated by them, because they're really not that complicated once you use one. They offer great support and hold baby snug and closely, which is good for your back.

A soft structured carrier like a MaiTai may be really suitable. I've not used one, but many of them look so comfy and snug. They have less bulk (and are usually better for hotter weather) than more structured carriers like Ergos.

See if you find a local baby wearing group to try a few different wraps & carriers.
