So DS2 is 6.5 weeks. Today he was unknowingly exposed to a boy with chicken pox. I know chances are slim he will catch it but I am terrified nonetheless.
Has anyone had a little one (age wise) sick with chicken pox before? What should I look out for? What will come before the spots?
He won't be able to scratch... So I won't know he's itchy... I'm guessing he will be miserable... What else?
From memory the incubation period for chickenpox is about 2 weeks - so h won't start showing any symptoms till then. Symptoms usually starts with a mild fever and spots on the torso which then move outwards to the limbs.
Let's hope that he doesn't get I though.
im going to sub too. Spock was hanging out with a girl 2 weeks ago, who has been diagnosised with chickenpocs a couple of days ago. this last week she has been really really clingy and sooky and crying and not napping at all. I thought it might just been teeth, but who knows. her temp hasn't gotten above 37.6. she does have a bunch of dry patches on her skin...dont look like spots though.

TT - they are contagious from 2 days before the spots appear until the spots scab over (usually about a week) so I suspect that you should be OK - unless that girl was playing with someone else that then passed it on iykwim.
My DD got chicken pox when DS was only a week old.
She showed NO signs of it, she broke out in the rash and we knew instantly what it was. She wasn't sick before hand, no fever... nothing! And she had been kissing and breathing all over DS and he was fine. The doctor just said to try keep her away as much as we can.

3 kids at ds1 school have it. 1 in his class.
I hope he doesn't get it cause then we'll all get it and that would make a very sucky Christmas. If mummy is too sick to get what's needed :(

I hope your bub doesn't get it. I've read that the recommendation is that if you own child 'may' have been exposed you should keep them away from other kids for up to a month to make sure they can't pass it on. Apparently some kids get a really mild version and may not show any symptoms, but can still be a carrier and pass it on to other kids. So it might be an idea to keep bub home for a few weeks :( Bub might not have chicken pox, but you'll probably get 'cabin fever' ;)
My DS got it at 14 months. It was a really mild version, about 5 spots and he didn't scratch at them. He needed to be very close and didn't sleep well. He got a couple of bumps before the classic blisters so it took a couple of drs visits to be diagnosed. Once the blisters are gone they're not infectious, its only in the early stages that the virus is airborne. Good luck, I hope its as easy as it can be!

we took dd to Dr tonight suspected pox, Dr said no, because yet rash is spots not blisters, but tonight in the shower I saw some with the white middle bit.
So Im not totally believing Dr.
how long between rash and blister formation?
Ahh Mylitta if only it were that easy - with two older kids and kinder, swimming, music, we can't just stay home for a few weeks JIC. Not only will they miss out on things but they will destroy the house after the first few days! :lol:
He's ok so far. But I understand he might not develop it for up to two weeks. And he's being baptized Sunday week :(
