Can someone break down WA car licensing for me?

I rego'd/licensed my car for 6 months today.

For a half price pension rego/license it cost me $269. Thats only $30 less than my friend would pay for a full fee 6 month rego. My brother pays less than twice that for a year & he's younger than me, so it can't be age.

For full fee's that would add up to over $1000 for a year. My brother has never paid over $800.

WT?????? My car is 6 cylinder, the same as both their last cars as well. Both just upgraded to 4wd & its still cheaper!

Really confused & missing the pension 'discount' bit...

In Victoria at least, different suburbs pay different amounts, some slightly less, some slightly more. Um, and i think here the concession doesn't cover the insurance, or something.

I don't know how they calculate it? Your brother is in WA or other state?

Here. We all live in the same tiny country town.

I've done NSW rego plenty & know how that works. But even full price over there is cheaper over 30. $230ish for rego & $250ish for green slip (CTP insurance) once over 30. For a full 12 months. You don't pay the rego fee on a pension.

I looked at my friends papers & the CTP insurance was only $115 for 6 months... Its all included in one price here & pensioner gets 50%, so very different to other states.

The lady who did it for me even stated that it sounded like alot, without me questioning it... It did include the plate fee. Will look that up, pretty sure in NSW its about $37? So maybe its more here.

I've searched on the website & no matter how I add it all together, I can't get it to total over $190. Lets say 200 if my vehicle weight is a bit more than I calculated.

I really hope they see something wrong when they go over it at the Dept of Transport.

Maybe it's worth checking out, then? Just found my last bill and it was about $250 for 6 months for the private rate, so if yours was supposed to be discounted then I think maybe someone's got it wrong! Let's hope so

Does WA include everything all together?

I'm in the middle of transferring my rego from ACT to NSW. In the ACT it's just one lump sum. To transfer it to NSW I have to get a blue slip ($55), CTP ($800ish), rego ($461).

Your CTP in NSW shouldn't be that much Cass. For under 30's its around $500, but thats the max you should have to pay. Over 30's shouldn't be much more than $300. You can compare prices on the MAA (Motor Accidents Authority) website :) Rego depends on your car, so does vary in price.
You'll only have to do your blue slip this once too, for future rego's it'll be a pink slip, unless you go more than 3 months past your due date. They aren't as thorough as the blue slip.

Its all one lump sum over here. And the weight & cylinders doesn't make me any less confused. :lol:

WA lumps everything in together - vehicle rego, CTP, bound to be some sort of tax in there as well. It's based on gross weight, engine capacity and fuel type, as well as how the vehicle is used.

It is cheaper for a full year than simply doubling the 6 month amount as there is a bit of a discount I think from memory for paying the full year in advance.

I got a phone call this morning. I paid $42 more than I should've, so will recieve a refund :)
So it was supposed to be $224 & $24 is the cost of plates. Glad the computer froze when it did (on the payment screen, just after I'd made the payment), so they had to fax it away to a major centre to be done :)
