Who would you say is responsible?

Is it the employee or the managers responsibility to make a time for monthly supervision?

Is it the role of the manager to remind employees to submit monthly reports, or should staff be responsible to ensure they are done?

Should the manager send out a reminder for when time sheets are due?

Is it the responsibility of the manager to approach staff to make a time for a performance appraisal, or should staff be responsible to approach the manager to make a time?

Should the manager send out a reminder for when time sheets are due? Again, if its the employees responiblity to have it done then there shouldn't be a need but it would be courteous to send a reminder I guess

Agree with Efjays answers to the points also. If required a timely reminder of the need to submit monthly reports could be issued.

My thoughts without reading the other responses:

Managers should ensure it is done on a timely basis as per the contract (for me this is annually). But if employees have issues or situations they need addressed, then there is no reason why they can't approach a manager for an interim meeting.

ETA2: As both employee and manager, it really annoys when I have to remind people to do things they know how to do and it also annoys me when my boss reminds me to do things before they are due without giving me a chance to do it first.

It really bugs me when managers play dumb about regular performance appraisals - I am far too shy to bring it up, even if I'm overdue for one. What's so hard about sticking a recurring appointment in Outlook, isn't it part of your job?!

I agree Keike! Delayed performance appraisals just create stress and uncertainty and make you think your boss is a stupid lazy git not worthy of your respect. Is it really so hard to find half an hour in June? Why mention it every second day while you're getting coffee but not actually do it until August despite repeated requests? Yes I have personal experience with this particular matter - he seriously spent more time telling me that we would have a performance review than it would have taken to just do it.

I am going to print & frame this, everyone agrees with me! WOOHOO!

If I notice that one has not been received, as I maintain the database, I will contact them on my manager's behalf.

As a hr manager I would say

Managers are responsible for scheduling supervision, employees are responsible for ensuring that they attend scheduled meetings

Monthly reports should be part of people's job responsibilities and whoever is responsible for producing them is responsible for ensuring they are done and circulated

Employees are responsible for keeping time sheets, managers need to get them igned off in time for payroll. If an employee can't remember to get a time sheet in then they don't get paid.

Managers should schedule appraisals, employees need to ensure they do their prep work and make time to attend.
