Help wanted ... biting toddler

One of my GFs DD is going through biting phase. She will be 2 in January and has just welcomed (!!!!) her new baby sister into the world. Biting has coincided with DD2s arrival. My GF is unsure as to what to do. Doesn't appear that she is biting her baby sister but she is biting other kids when she goes to play group and when she is in day care two days per week. Would assume that the two are related.

Any suggestions on what she can do to resolve issue? She has tried telling her the biting is not good and gentle play etc etc.

I have had a biter. ds2 was a biter for about a year. Its a phase. We started with "no" then as he got a little older explained biting hurts and people won't want to play with him if he bites.
We also talked a lot to.him about feelings and read some books. Biting often happens out of frustration.
We were careful not to give to much.attention to it so it didn't escalate into an attention seeking habit.
We also let kindy and friends know. We had to supervise and watch play more during this time. But it passed and no permanent scars on his older brother ;)

A friends DS who is a similar age is a biter, and she gives him a 'bitey' toy to bite instead. He bites out of frustration, so when she sees him going to bite she redirects him to 'bitey' and overtime he just bites it now instead. Its been a huge help, they still watch him like a hawk but most time he leaves the other children alone now and just bites the toy.

There is a good book called "teeth are not for biting" they might find useful
