Severe pain before doing poos - normal?

Miss A has always been a windy baby and had colic, so we've had a long relationship with Infant's Friend which has always helped. Over the past month its become pattern that she'll do a poo once every four or five days, and the 24 hours before it are a nightmare for her - lots of tummy pain, grizzles, farting and unsettled (more so than normal) sleep. Then when she finally does a poo everything's back to good again for another three or four days.

I started her on solids about three weeks ago. So far its very infrequent cos I just can't get myself organised but since starting her poos have become a thing to behold - enormous and a little more spaced out time wise, and she seems to be more uncomfortable. Last night she was screaming for hours, arching her back, kicking like mad and her farts were truly toxic. I haven't given her any solids for about three days so its purely breastmilk in there.

My baby just doesn't scream. I'm pretty sure there's tooth action going on too. She's pretty happy this morning, although no poo yet, and I've got an appointment with my GP but its not until next week. Is it normal for bubs to be just so uncomfortable, or is it an indication of maybe a bowel obstruction and I should just go to the ED instead?

Dd was only going every ten to 14 days for several months when she was little and primarily bf. she was very much like this. We had hold nurse and gp check her and neither believed there was an issue just that it was they way her body worked. She would scream through her motion and it was always huge and solid. And once it was done, she would be fine again.

If you are concerned ring nurse on call or move gp appt up. Given its "normal" for your dd, it doesn't sound like something to drag her through ed. more something I address with the gp. Kwim?

Last night was way beyond normal though and it just made me worry that its something more? She has just been so damn easy compared to her sisters that I wonder sometimes if I play down anything going on with her, and then compensate by times like now of looking for zebras instead of horses IYKWIM.

Can't move my GP up unfortunately - she's one of those fantastic, old school GPs that actually knows her patients but as a result she's booked out for weeks. This was an "urgent but not emergency" appt as it was.

Check things like temperature. Maybe call nurse I call or child nurse for advice then.... If you are worried go to ED but if you're not sure it's worth it, get advice first.
