Hello ladies,
I got eaten alive by the dreaded mossies on the weekend - I mean I look like I have chicken pox there are so many! Went to the chemist and got some Soov, but they couldn't recommend anything else that is safe to take when pg, and to be honest, it isn't giving me very much relief. Can anyone help before I go insane????

I know this might sound strange but my grandmother used to put vinegar on our mozzie bites. Stinks & can sting a little if the skin is broken but works.
Yep we use vinegar too. Kameron is allergic to them and vinegar provides the only relief, and have found if the skin is broken sure it hurts like hell for a few seconds but works faster

I have used Stop Itch in the past and it worked really well, maybe you could give that a go.Hope you find something soon.

Ah thanks guys - will try the vinegar first and see how I go. I always seem to be the mossie magnet - no one else in the unit (5 others) got 1 bite!!!!!
I cannot remember for the life of me where I read it, but it was only a couple of days ago - Apparently if you get a cut piece of raw red onion and rub it on the bites they will disappear overnight. Have never tried it but it supposedly works.
Bepanthen! Go for it! It's supposed to be nappy rash cream, but I'll swear by it for anything that itches! And you can use the cream when bubba is born...
It's basically lanolin (sheep fat).
Ice cubes (help to numb the area - I use these at BBQ's etc) and apparently neat lavender essential oil will do the trick too.

I'm also a major mozzie magnet, and have always found calemine lotion is the best, but don't know if it's safe... will have to check that out. Vinegar sounds like it would sting!
Calamine lotion is safe, as is pinetarsal which helps take the itch out. I haven't heard of the vinegar thing? :-k must try that as well :D
ive been told to use vinegar and to stick your nail into it a little and then kind of rub some saliva into it, sometimes helps me, but well nothing always works for me but they do help a little

Here's a related question - how about mozzie REPELENTS? Are we allowed to spray ourselves with aeroguard or rid?? Or is it better to light a citronella candle?

Also apparently Mozzies prefer certain blood types, I always get eaten alive and have 10 times the bites on me that anyone else gets and I am O+
Mmmmmmmmm all very interesting, thanks guys. TRied the vinegar last night and it did seem to work better than the other stuff. Can't go around smelling of the stuff at work though or people will think I am madder than I already am.
Canniel - I did hear that about blood groups too, but then again I am A+ and so is DH who doesn't get bitten at all.

I've had the same problem while pg - the mozzies love me! As a repellant, I've discovered a lotion in a green bottle, plantation island brand - it doesn't have DEET in it at all - just citronella and pyrethryn. It works well...although it doesn't last as long as RID etc. You can get it from most chemists...
I have always used Vix Vaperrub on mozzie bites, another use for it
