I know they are probably not... But does anyone have any experience with an ABA brand meh tai? It's so cheap when you compare it to some of the others out there (Didytai is the one I'm looking at/lusting after). I know material is a big factor, the Didytai is converted from a Didymos wrap so there's extra cost there in the wrap as well as the conversion... But why would it be so much cheaper?
Is the ABA one a good one? Or should I give in to my longing for a Didytai?
Some people find the ABA one good. It's the same basic design. The differences are in materials, as you said - which can make a difference to the fit and comfort, as well as support offered by the MT, also the width and padding of the straps - the ABA ones are very thin - and the waist band - some are quite thick, padded, etc, and that all makes a difference to the way it works for you.
If you can, I'd go and try a few on to see which suits you best.
I have an ABA one in the library I'm baby-sitting. It's ummmmmm....a bit odd if you ask me. The straps are *very* thin, so is the waistband, and the body is very small with quite a narrow seat. There's no padding on it at all, so combining that with the thin straps I'd be guessing it'd get pretty uncomfortable after a while. I'm about to head out soon, but if you like I can dig it up and send you a pic when we get home.
I'd go the didy-tai, or if $ is an issue, see if you can scare up a secondhand babyhawk or maya-tie.
i have 2 old ABA mei teis you are welcome to have. they never really worked for me.
They're good for little babies. Not so great past the 6 month or so mark.
Audax do you think that applies to all MTs?? Ds2 is already coming up to 3 months... Will he outgrow an MT?
Edit: MadB, I tried the Didytai yesterday, quite liked it. Just haven't tried the ABA one. Might have to try out HotI's!
Audax is referring to the /ABA ones :) The age/size-range will vary MT to MT, but most will last a good long while

I'm going to buy the Didytai I think. Unless Audax has a better option ;)
Personally I found the ABA one uncomfertable and it didn't seem to support bubs head that well.
I love my BabyHawk, especially as I got to chose the fabric designs. I have found that the straps have faded a bit but its been used and washed a fair bit. Its very comfertable and Ive used it for both dd2 and dd3 and they love it, they fall asleep within minutes of going in there and I can do my shopping without upsetting my baby or anyone else :)
I used my Baby hawk up until dd2 was about 18 months then used the stroller or a trolley or she walked, she still would have fitted in it but was happy in a trolley and it was easier to place things in the trolley without an 14kg toddle attatched, and she could snack without me getting covered in food when shopping! DD3 is 9months and 9kg and its still very easy to use with her.
I lurve MTs!! I wore my DD in a couple from about 8 -20 months. Absolutely perfect. I've been warned off the ABA ones & I don't think they look very comfortable. This bub will be in my MTs earlier as you can just roll them up to be smaller if need be. A good starting out MT are Babyhawks IMO.
I've heard didytais are great too and I think they are reasonably priced. Not sure about their comfort in summer compared to others but something to think about.
Ok, just bumping this up as I am in the process of purchasing a second hand babyhawk...they are hard to find!
i am not sure that it comes with instructions so no doubt will need to have my hand held when it arrives lol.
Is it comfy to carry baby on the back with these? I saw that they have a high back and can probably provide quite a bit of support to bubs. (i have an ergo but she hates it...screams blue murder...first of my babies to not like it :().
BH Mei Tais are lovely and soft esp if already broken in. I think they are good til about 12 months average baby size. I think they are a good MT to begin back carrying. My DD didn't like the ergo either until she was about 8 months. I got a manduca this time around but I haven't started DS in it on my back as he is still a bit floppy. I find front carrying a floppy almost 9kg baby hard work and don't get much done while he's in it except helping DD to the toilet :/
I've seen a few babyhawks for sale on the Babywearing Buy Sell Swap fb page... worth joining and keeping an eye out there. The last one went for $45, I think.
I love my BH and have used it for back carry with my DD since she was about five months. Fantastic head and back support!
ah this is encouraging! I am used to ring slings and wraps so this is kinda new territory me. I hope that I get it soon! it is SO PRETTY!

i am totally LOVING it.
I was a bit skeptical that it would be comfy when i first got it out of the envelope (bought second hand from gumtree lol). but the moment it went one it fit like a glove and the best is that DD3 loves it and is super duper comfy. it has a nice firm neck support thingo that is great for her right now and is good for back carry. i saw in pics that that can be folded down once the bubba is big enough.
totally love it and get lots of nice comments on it too which is lovely :)
