Poisonous?

Does anyone know if the wooden balls you put in your clothes dresser are poisonous? These are wood mayby 1.5 cm diameter and mayby of nay not have a light powder they do have a smell but not strong , I just found my 1 year old sucking on 3 in the 1 minute I went to brush my teeth a meter away !! He seems fine I tried to give him some water but we just had a shower so he's not interested

We were at hospital one day when a 3yr old came in. Had eaten some. Had stomach pump etc.

Just rang poison info line and 13health he's not having any reaction and poisons info can't give any info other than to keep an eye on him because I don't know what they are made of or if they have anything on them

can you take him into a gp or childrens hospital to be checked? I'd take the balls with you too.

Do you remember where you bought them from, or a brand name to google them?

No idea what brand my mum bought them a whole ago and she can't remember either he is fine just being naughty

Take them and him to the hospital. They have camphor, which is highly toxic. It can take between 4-6 hours for symptoms to show. Better to head in now and get the all clear than wait.

I think they might be cedar balls they didn't say they were for pest use on the packet the nurse said just keep an eye on him didn't seem worried

Call the Poison info line again if you get worried. ph 13 11 26. Maybe you'll get a different operator? My dh has seen/heard them in action several times in his work and says they have access to every database you can think of (not just in Australia but also worldwide) to find out what is poisonous and what isn't. They can usually even figure out what someone has been poisoned with by their symptoms if you have no idea what the victim has come in contact with. At least you know what your child was chewing on, that gives them a massive head start!

If they're cedar - I'm pretty sure that's one of the selling points that they're non toxic. Very different to normal moth balls.

Yeah, he's getting babysat by mil law now while I go to work so I've told her to keep an eye on him

If they are made of wood and don't really smell they are most likely cedar balls, which are fine. As someone else said, very different to mothballs!

Perfect size to choke a young 'un though, I would chuck them out or only place them in drawers he can't access!

Apparently there are wooden camphor balls too , as for him not accessing an area that seems non existent now he gets into everything might have to do another round of the house and childproof again
