For DS, I stopped when I realised he was eating dirt - about 12 months lol! For DD, I never bothered at all but she hardly had any formula anyway.
From memory, around 18 months! Sterilizing I stopped about 12 months
Yeah lol he eats lots of stuff off the ground and his feet which he now walks on yuk
I was desperate to feed my baby and he was like 9months i think and i used plain tap water and not warmed and he drank it and all was ok ......
DS had regular tap water in his sippy cups from 6 months with no adverse effects. No water before that as he was exclusively breastfed. No idea if thats ok or not. I'd never even thought about it until now TBH.
i think seriously we all get hung up on the sterility of things .... umm if we lived in remote african countries we wouldnt care unless it was clean for the bubs
Once she started crawling, eating things off the floor, licking the floor......about 7/8-ish months. Though, I never stressed a lot about sterilising bottles/dummies, at about 6 months, I stopped and just washed well in warm, soapy water then rinsed well.
Lol bub 3 yes and no babies die in Africa alot , I only worry because we get the odd giardia outbreak in the water supply being in a new area and didn't know whether fluoride can be boiled out
yes i know Africa wasnt the best place for my eg but you know what i meant ...
With Ds I think until 6 months or just after, when I also stopped sterilising.
I give Spock a sippy cup of water when she is eating solids, never boiled it though, just use tap water... The thought did briefly cross my mind for a second, but then thought eh, I know I can't be bothered boiling the water and letting it cool off so just gave it to her from the tap and haven't looked back.
I probably started using tap water around 6/7 months - I also stopped sterilising at that time. DD was putting that much stuff in her mouth by then that I figured it wasn't worth it lol.
I asked the cafhs nurse about having to boil water for her to drink and she said after 6 months you don't need to, same as not needing to sterilize anymore...not that I've given her water yet lol...
One of the reasons for boiling in the early days is that formula itself is not sterile
" The World Health Organization issued guidelines on the safe preparation, storage and handling of powdered infant formula after experts recognized that powdered formula was not sterile and was sometimes putting babies at risk for serious bacterial infections."
So it isn't the water that is necessarily the problem.
