And we had 7 hits and 1 miss!!!!! I'm so impressed with my little princess. I wasn't sure if she was ready but we thought we would give it a go. If she wasn't ready we weren't really fussed but we thought she was showing signs. I hope she's still keen on it tomorrow!
Question for all of you: what did you do when leaving the house initially? Did you put them back in a nappy or just do quick trips? At which point were you confident to take them out for a significant time without a nappy?
I used pull-ups to start with cloth nappies / training pants at home and cloth training pants at child care.
No pull ups here when out and about. I found it sent my son backwards when we tried TT the first time.
We stayed home for a few days then I took a very basic plastic potty out and about when I knew no toilets would be around. A few times we sat on the potty on the side of the road but being out helped him develop more bladder control. Once we were on the potty on the busiest round about in town!
There were accidents but I decided I would rather an accident and the learning experience that went with it than the nappy.
Wow Chody what a great first day! We are starting 'proper' TT at the end of next week when I finish work. We've been using the toilet for a while now, mostly wees, but have just been doing that to get her ready.
I'm planning on putting her straight into
knickers. She already has some Dora knickers that she knows she will get to wear when she's doing all her wees and poos in the toilet. I got cheap knickers from Kmart - 3 for $1 - to start with.
As for leaving the house, I'm thinking of using pull ups initially. That way she can still use a toilet easily when out but i will have a bit more peace if mind in my heavily pregnant state ha ha!!
I've also bought a travel potty seat, the type that folds up into a bag (fits in baby bag) and sits onto a full size seat. So that way she won't feel like she's going to fall into an adult seat at public toilets! Got it from BigW.
And I also have a Piddle Pad for the carseat. And one final thing, just ordered some Brolly Sheets for when we attempt night training!
Fantastic news. We started TTng DD again on New Years day and first day we had 3 accidents, 2nd day 7 accidents, 3rd day no accidents and she has been dry the past 2 nights as well.
We have even already transitioned her from the potty to the toilet with no drama's either :)
Our first few trips we will put her in pull up's as even though she has shown bladder control at home (even during sleep times) she needs to get into the hang of letting us know when she needs to go when we are out and about with some warning, which when she is at home she doesn't have to worry about as she can just go to the toilet when she needs to go.
I have got her a special toilet seat insert - a padded princess one - that we will use when we go out if she needs to use a public toilet, one to have continuity for her that she is using the 'same toilet' IYKWIM plus it means she also doesn't have to sit on icky public toilet seats and hold on for ballance as the toilet seat insert has handles she can use.

I tried the fold up portable toilet seat - but it was very much didn't like it for ds1 and he wouldn't use it - wasn't comfortable with it when sitting on it. ( I had him sit for both to start with on the toilet)
Out and about we pack the potty in the car and deal with accidents as they happen. Try and time wee's before we go and before we come home.
Thanks for the tips everyone! We have gone straight to 'big girl knickers'. I brought about 20 pairs from Kmart (in packs of 7 for only a few $$ each), expecting to go through the majority in one day. I'm not expecting tomorrow to be as successful as it won't be such a novelty, but we will see.
I put a nappy on her for her day sleep today and one for night time. Before her day sleep she'd just done her first wee and as soon as she woke up she said 'potty' so we rushed there, took off her nappy and straight away she weed. It'll be interesting to see what she does in the morning.
I will see how she goes tomorrow and might get a few of the pull ups for going out - I don't want her to go backwards though (if she wants to continue that is).
When TT my first two kids I carried a clean up bag around with me. It contained a couple of old toweling nappies, a bottle of disinfectant, a couple of plastic shopping bags and a change of clothes. If my child had an accident, I simply wiped the wee with one towel, sprayed disinfectant, wiped dry with the second towel and moved on to deal with a change of clothes. I was once in the supermarket with my sister when my niece wee'd on the floor and it took forever to find someone to come and mop it up, but we weren't able to just walk away from it in case someone slipped in it (plus, that would feel pretty wrong, to just walk away from a wee on a supermarket floor!). So, the clean up bag meant no waiting or looking for a staff member whilst my child stands around in wet knickers.
I did try to mainly stay at home for a week or so, just the essential trips to the supermarket, school etc. and I tried to make sure I always knew where the nearest toilet was. I also encouraged a 'Squeezie Wee' before any outing - the wee you squeeze out because mum tells you to, not because you really need to go! We didn't use a potty, straight onto the toilet with a cushie tushie.
Good luck, 7 wees in one day is great. Miss P has been using the loo the last few weeks but she is an exceptionally light wetter and only wees maybe three times a day - makes it a bit trickier to catch them but they are big ones when we do and she is now telling us she wants to go to the toilet. I'm on holiday in a few weeks and intend to TT Miss P properly then... hope it's an easy process for all of us!
Hey Chody how did your DD go today?
We've actually been pretty busy the past couple of days so haven't had as many opportunities to practice. She was successful 2/4 times on Sunday (very short period, but she did ask for the potty both times she did go) and today we were out for most of the day so didn't try the big girl undies. I'm thinking that when we are home for decent lengths of time we will practice and when she is getting good at recognising the need to go we will try more often. I don't want to force it on her and make it stressful for any of us. I'm probably not helping by not doing consistently though.....
You've got to do it whatever way works for you though :) I am cautiously optimistic that DD will pick it up quickly - today after swimming lesson we were about to get in the shower in the change room and she told me she needed to wee, popped her on the loo and she went straight away!! Counting down to Friday - on a separate note, last three days of work starts tomorrow, yay!!
