Hi, I am interested to her from people who have had to have steriod injections to help mature their unborn babies lungs should they need to deliver early.
Did you have any side affects? Was you child ok once born, where there any other complications?

I had 2 (or was it 4??) steroid injections at 30 weeks and spent 4 days in hospital due to threatened labour.
I went into labour naturally at 40&2 and my boy is perfectly healthy.
The needle hurt my arse though :rofl:

I had steroid needles, didn't have any side affects, however my babies did have complications as they were born very very early...
I had some (cant remember how many sorry!) at around 30 weeks.
DD ended up being born a month early. She had ongoing bronchial issues until she was six. Not sure if that was related to anything in particular.
i had the steroid injections at 34 +1 and 34 +2. DS was born the next day. all he needed was some extra oxygen at birth. just been diagnosed with asthma but not sure if that is related to his prematurity or not!
i do remember them hurting like hell tho! LOL
I had a single steroid shot less than 9 hours before my DDs fast arrival, so it probably didn't have time to take effect.
My DD was born with BPD (Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia)
and HMD (Hyaline Membrane Disease) causing respiratory distress. But she was born 3 months early. She ended up with CLD (Chronic Lung Disease) and has a lot of lung problems at the age of 13.5months actual, 10.5months corrected. I am told that as she grows, so will her lungs and they will get stronger as they do. (we have a strong family history of asthma so she will probably be diagnosed after 2 years old)
However, she requires ventolin via spacer and mask to help open her airways.
And we have had hospital visits requiring oxygen therapy for bronchiolitis and rsv episodes. The last admission not requiring as much treatment! So, she's getting stronger slowly!
Any effects of the steroids will be out weighed by the benefits of the needles. The only side effect I got was that the needle hurt like buggary! Anyway, I wish my bub had enough time to get the full dose, maybe then she wouldn't have ended up ventilated hours after birth.

I had 2 at 27 weeks 3 at 29 weeks, again at 34 weeks 2 I think Jack was born at 37 weeks.. he did go into ditress during labour and ended in a emergency C.. where he was born not breathing but came good within 10min of birth no complications or problems
I had them at 32 weeks. Baby was born just fine at 36+6, no breathing problems whatsoever.
The only side effect I had was that she didn't move as much during the 24 hours or so after each injection. Led to a massive panic and us coming home early from a holiday only to be told that it was normal :)
I had steroid injections at 33wks and bubs was born at 39wks, no complications or side effects.

i had steriod injections with my twins at 29 weeks and they then waited the 5 days that are the optimal time for the injections to take effect to deliver them. DS1 very similar senario to purple pixie with HMD and CLC and was on CPAP. Same lots of hospital admissions when he was younger but now at age 10, he does have asthma and episodes where his O2 levels go dodgy when he gets respiratory illnesses. DD had only vented O2 and has no trouble with her lungs.

Thank you all for sharing with me. Having the needles is a lot more common then I thought it was. Fingers crossed for me that this little bundle will stay inside until the timer is done ;)
