Just wondering if anyone else has experienced their fundal height being so far behind? At my appointment today (35 weeks), my fundal height only measured 29cm. I know it can be variable, but it seems an awful lot behind.... At 33 weeks it measured 31cm and it measured 29cm at 29 weeks. Can it really go backwards?
I have another growth scan next Wed, after which I need to see my ob again so it is being checked, but I wasn't sure if anyone else has experienced this?

i know you have been having a rough time lately with little miss! i hope its just something as simple as a little difference in measuring spot?
I'm by no means an expert but it seems strange it would go backwards. I know it varies a lot depending on the person measuring it and how they do it. Did your midwife / caregiver offer any advice regarding the measurement?

My ob didn't really say too much, just said we would check growth again next Wed and that if movements decrease to go in. I honestly feel bubs will be 'evicted' next Wed.
:hug: Don't be too concerned, with A I was measuring in front for all my measurements and then I had another midwife measure me and I was spot on....which means either I didn't grow in a few weeks or I went backwards a bit. Anyway she tells me that my stomach muscles were contracting while I was lying on my back which sorta made things a bit tighter and was harder to measure. When she got me to take a few deep breaths in and out my stomach muscles relaxed and allowed her get a more accurate reading of the fundus. Seems a bit strange I know but perhaps that is what happened today?
P.S I can't wait to announce the arrival :happydance: getting so close now!!!
Different people can measure differently which can account for the discrepancy, plus when baby engages in your pelvis they will drop down and that can reduce the fundal height. It's always worth keeping a close eye on this though and it sounds like you are in good hands with your ob.
I 'lost' a couple of cm when DD33 engaged so her head was further in my pelvis than previously. My midwive wasnt concerned as this is what had happened. Im sure if your ob was concerned they would have discussed it with you but you can always give them a ring if you're worried or discuss it at your next apoointment
If bubs is in a slightly transverse lie, that will affect your fundal height too, also this hot weather could even have an impact as well. Remember, all the fundal height measures is the height of your FUNDUS, not the size of your baby :) it's a redundant measurement that many practitioners don't even use anymore :)
Thanks everyone. I'm not too concerned, my ob has been doing a great job dealing with the million issues that are occurring this pregnancy. I feel like I'm in great hands. It's great to hear everyone else's experiences and knowledge too. Thank you.
Both of mine measured behind in Fundal height, and I was scanned for both pregnancies. I was always reassured that it was most likely due to babes position. Both babies were born at lovely sizes, and full term.
