way to stop junk mail?

We live in DH's grandparents house. Grandparents are both deceased now, granddad for 3yrs, grandma for 6mths.

Anyhow, every now and then we get some mail for them. Before nanna passed away it would be everyday business stuff mixed in with junk mail. Now its just the junk mail. But its junk mail addressed to grandad, and its for random things health, vitamins, intimacy, arthritis, etc.. The list is long. If we get mail that is important, which is rare these days, I pass it on to mil. If we get junk then I normally double check before throwing it out.

But anyhow Im over the junk mail, also I think its weird and rude that junk mail is coming for someone who passed away three years ago.

So is there a way I can let these junk mail people know that these people arent alive anymore, therefore they are wasting paper, the mail service, and time etc? I did think of ringing the companies, but I was hoping for a easier way to stop it then waiting for it to arrive then throw out.

Write on the envelope "return to sender No longer at this address" and put back in the mail. Takes a few times, but they should stop.
I have in the past, when they don't stop, also written "How many times do I have to tell you they no longer live here!!!" in big red letters, they always stop after that ;)

You can try calling, but sometimes they wont talk to you as you are not the contact person. Worth giving it a go though.

Thanks Astrid, Yeah I have returned to send them a few times, I tend to go through periods of doing it, but Im not consistent with it. I shall have start it again. :)
Its just upsetting when Dh gets the mail and its junk mail for his deceased grandparents, then it gets awkward when its opened and its about how to improve your bedroom life with the help of emu oil, or yak oil, or some sort of balm. :lol:

If you get some from the same place, tape them together and return, that also makes them get the message.
Actually I wonder if AusPost can help. I know when I have done mail redirects in the past, there was a form I could fill out where Auspost would contact some businesses on my behalf to change my address. They may be able to hold the mail for you.

print out some labels with the return to sender message to save your hands writing :)

Write, return to sender, then in big black texta letters - UNSOLICITED. REMOVE FROM YOUR MAILING LIST. Then chuck it in the mail.

I imagine it would be equally effective to write, RTS - ADDRESSEE DECEASED.

I know whenever I've written RTS - DECEASED they've stopped very shortly afterwards.

Thanks everyone :) I'll definitely do it. This week we got something for them every day, I think that hurts more than just the odd one. But yeah instead of throwing them out I shall keep writing on them. xo
