Constantly snotty nose... Problem???

DS1 (2.5yrs) has had a snotty nose for like months now. I can't even work out how long. I remember saying that I hoped the warmer weather would clear it up, so that sort of implies it started back in winter :o

For the last while, maybe a month or so, it has been really nasty snot - thick and yellow/green. It drips all day. Dries off overnight and starts again the next day.

Apart from that, he doesn't seem sick. Tantrums, but hey he's 2.5, so that's par for the course!

Does this sound like something that should be checked out?

Yellow/green usually indicates a bacterial infection. Maybe get it checked out to be sure?
Does he eat lots of dairy, as this can increase mucous production too?

I would get him checked out just to be sure.

But I would also cut out dairy for a bit and see if that fixes it. When DD1 was that age she seemed to have a blocked/runny nose all the time. When I look back at videos her voice was so nasal!! For some reason one day I thought maybe the problem was milk and I stopped giving it to her. Her nose cleared up really quickly. Now if she has any cows milk she has a blocked nose within 10 minutes. I still give her cheese and yoghurt and that's ok but it's just the milk for her. She drinks almond milk now. Worth a try!

I had heard about the green/yellow indicating some sort of infection but it has been that colour now for ages! Surely he would have gotten sicker or something if there was a problem?? Don't know!

Heaven that's a good idea - he doesn't have much milk so I should be able to cut it a it without a problem.

Dd had this problem for over a month including over Christmas time. No other signs of illness. I cut back on her dairy after some advice as well as I didn't realise how much she was actually consuming. It improved significantly and completely dried up. So definitely try it.

DS had a constantly running nose, and it would often be green. Last winter, I felt like we were at the doctors at least once a month but he was always well otherwise. We finally saw an ENT due to his speech issues and fluid in his ears, and he had his adenoids out in December. And no more runny nose.

Hope you find the root cause soon, but a vapouriser in the mean time might help :)

Ooh I have a vaporizer. Might get it out. He doesn't have speech issues, his speech is very good. But I think I will get him checked anyway.

Given how long it has gone on for I would take hime to the gp, it could be due to sinus issues, allergic reaction/inflamation, or drainage problems with his eustacian tubes.

Hope it clears up soon, nothing worse than crusty sheets/clothes when they forget to blow there nose!
