So it appears that there is a 4yr old fox in my house. The fox has cut her sisters hair and hid the evidence under the bed, ripped the page out of the books, put tooth paste all over the bathroom and a series of other things.
We have talked about how she needs to be honest with us and if she is then she may not get into as much trouble. We have talked about lying and she understands the concept.
Anyone have suggestions on how do deal with this? The fox has done everything in the house
No more Dora ;) I know I shouldn't laugh but that's very cute.
I think just reiterating over and over. She will get it eventually. But when she DOES tell you something she does make a BIG deal about it. Praise her, tell her how good she must feel that she told the truth etc.
My granny's way would be doing the same in reverse. Tell fibs (not hurtful ones) and then when she pulls you up on it ask how she feels. I can so picture my grandmother telling us she's made chocolate sauce and it's actually gravy or something and then blaming the fox ;) And then the usual "Well how do you like it?" People these days say that's a horrible way to parent, but she's the one I remember with the fondest memories because she never yelled or smacked or lost control, but she taught me A LOT! And always with a smile.
We had a ghost instead of a fox. Whenever anything happened I got 'it wasn't me, must have been the ghost'.
You just need to re enforce telling the truth and picking her up when you know she lies. When she tells you the truth straight away praise her.
