Travel insurance
I'm going to nz this week and thinking I might need to take out travel insurance. I have no idea where to start. I want something that will cover me if I need emergency surgery and a hospital stay. Is this just basic travel insurance? Any recommendations on where to get the best insurance (and cheap)?

Try travel insurance direct or 1cover.

I've used travel insurance direct the last two times I've gone OS, they've covered me for the "extras" I've done (like volcano climbs). If you have a pre-existing condition (and pregnancy is counted in this) you will find it is more expensive.

Travel insurance
Are you on Australian passport? If so you are covered for emergency hospital treatment/surgeries. They have a reciprocal agreement. If you are talking about your gallbladder, you prob won't be covered any travel insurance as it is pre-existing.

Travel insurance
Yeah on aus passport. And yeah I was think invade something happened. I have all my pain relief etc so will just suck it up, but it made me think what if? I'm going to look into more tomorrow and call around. I know it'll cost me being pre existing but I want to know jic something happens I'll be ok.
I'm sure it'll be fine but want to cover my bases.

Definetly get some type of travel insurance. I work in brain injuries. One of my clients acquired his injury overseas uninsured. The family had to raise aprox $200,000 to get him home!

I also use travel Insurance Direct and have found them to be excellent. Just google them. :)
