The updated guidelines were released today. You've probably been hearing for years the "they" were going to change the guidelines re breastfeeding and introduction of solids... well they haven't.

In Australia, it is recommended that infants are exclusively breastfed until around 6 months of age when solid foods are
introduced, and that breastfeeding is continued until 12 months of age and beyond, for as long as the mother
and child desire.
That's great news :) Too bad about all the gimmicky baby foods targeted at ages under 6mo though, convincing parents otherwise.

These replace guidelines published in 1996, btw. They haven't been changed in between that I"m aware of.
I remember my chn telling me the guidelines had changed - or must have been about to change- when DD was tiny.
It's been rumoured since... forever. These have been under review for a while, but I know the rumour has been doing the rounds for at least 5 years now...
CHNs etc are supposed to follow health dept guidelines when advising parents. Sometimes they don't, it seems.
I thought that's what they always were. Well for the last 7 years anyways. ( since my first bub)

I just know I've been told different things with each baby I've had. It's usually backwards and forwards between 4 or 6 mths. (not that it really matters for me - I kind of do my own thing anyway ;) ).
Thanks MadB must send to my MIL who believes every sensationalist article re early solids and early weaning being recommended and thinks she's an expert!
