I cheated last time, and I made the usual recipe, but put them in the bottom of muffin trays, so they were quite thick. Could do it the same way by making it as a slice, and then cutting into squares?
I just cook them a few minutes less than the recipe states and I've always gotten what I intended, but my mum swears by the Australian Women's Weekly one.
our fave recipe lately is anzac slice, that we cut into bars. great to freeze, and kids and big people like them too.
Preheat oven 170*C. Line tin with baking paper.
1 cup plain flour (i used wholemeal this time )
1 cup coconut
1 cup rolled oats
Mix in large bowl and make a well.
125g butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup golden syrup
Place in saucepan and mix til melted and smooth.
Add 1/2 tsp bicarb soda and mix. Then add to dry ingredients and mix.
Push mix into lined tin and squash with back of spoon. Cook for 20 mins. Allow to cool in tin. Take slice out by lifting paper and then cut into bars.
I freeze them individually, then chuck them in an airtight container.
Usual recipe, cook a couple of minutes less.
