Does anyone else have a family bedroom?

As in an actual, purposefully made room, for everyone to sleep in?

DH and I decided last year, that we would create a room for all of us to sleep in. We have always had sleeping issues, with all of the children wanting to co sleep and only having a queen sized bed, it was difficult to fit 4-5 bodies into it! At one stage, I was sleeping with DS2 in our spare room in the double bed and DH would usually sleep with one or both of the big kids in our queen bed. But none of us were really getting a good night sleep and I wanted to sleep with my hubby.

So the decision was made. We are lucky enough to have a bedroom big enough to fit our queen, a double and a single bed in it. DH and I sleep together in our queen, DS2 is in the single right next to us and DD and DS1 are int he double together. DS2 will still often creep over into our bed, which is ok, we love to snuggle. DD and DS1 are happy enough now to stay in their double bed together knowing we are in the room with them. I often check on them before going to bed and they're usually snuggle up together. It has made life so much easier and I actually love knowing everyone is with me and I know what is going on with them, especially when they're sick.

I know a few people who have done it, and I love the idea, but we haven't done it yet. only because our current arrangements are working. come a 2nd child and less bed space in our queen, then i will be suggesting this idea to DH.

Yes we have pretty much always done that. We are building a house at the moment and it is only one big family bedroom (in a loft) and the downstairs is open plan. It's great! Although as DS gets older we would probably build in a wall.

we have a QS bed and DD's toddler bed in our room at the moment - about to move her into a single in our room. she has her own bedroom with double bed if/when she chooses to move out, but in the mean time, it's the spare bed for visitors. we aren't in any hurry to move her out - our house is very long, with our room seperated from the rest of the house. i sleep better knowing she is nearby if she needs us, she sleeps better in with us - it doesn't hurt her, us or anyone else, so she can stay in there for now. she will find her independent streak and ask to sleep in her own room when she is ready...

When i was younger we cosleep 4 kids and mum in a bedroom. Two queen beds put together. I think im going to have to do this too as dd1 (5) and dd2 (6mnths) both sleep on my bed

While we don't do this and i doubt DP would ever agree to it i could quite easily turn our room upstairs into a family room.
We have a super king bed and the girls are in by 5am most mornings anyway, DP would never agree though :p

Honestly, I never would have thought of it.
Dd & Ds share a room, and I know when dd is seeking comfort she will crawl into bed with her brother, so that's sweet.

We're considering doing this, DD1 has a double bed and we have a queen, but DH sleeps with DD1 because of her sleeping issues. We're thinking of putting the two beds together.

I use to wish we had a room like barbie and the 12 dancing princess's. It would definately work for us.
Our sleeping arrangements are DD1 (13) in her own room. She definately needs her own space.
Then in our room we have our king bed that accommodates DH, DD3 and I and also a single bed at the foot of our bed which has DD2 in it most nights. Occassionally DD2 will sleep in her own room or with DD1 (who likes her in there sometimes)

we have a young child...we have no sex life

We haven't done this but I think it's a great idea! No getting up in the middle of the night. And I would sleep so well knowing they were right there. I hated having DD1 in a room away from us. Now that DD2 is in with her I feel better because they're together and in the house we are now their bedroom is right next to ours anyway.

Probably spices it up. You have to have sex other places instead of bed. We have done a lot of cosleeping here and lets just say the shag pile in the lounge room has lived up to it's name :rofl:

Yep, we just do it else where. We have a spare room with a double bed in it and so it in there if we want to have 'bed sex' lol. But it's just usually where ever we are at the time- floor, lounge, shower, kitchen.... We also have two days totally kid free when they're all at school/pre school/day care, when we take advantage if DH's not working a day shift!

Arranging our house like this has really taken pressure off I think. I'm not so stressed about bed time and worrying if I will get enough sleep, especially when DH's doing night shifts.

Though I must admit I am very picky with who I tell about it! A lot of people look at me like I'm insane to choose to have everyone in the one room. I have tried saying it's actually more normal than having everyone in separate rooms, that it is only a recent western thing that everyone has their own rooms, especially very young children, but a lot of people (particularly men for some reason) won't buy it!

We never really had sex in bed that much before kids anyway. We usually have sex in the bathroom, on the couch, on our deck or on the kitchen bench. We have a bit of a height difference so that's a good one lol.

we did that in our old house. we had a bunk and a queen. it worked great.

and yeah- you have sex everywhere but the bed. its a treat if you can dtd in a bed lol

I'm all for sex all over the house but I also want to act on it in the comfort of my bed when I wake up in the middle of the night with urges :lol:

Fair enough. It's different with everyone really. With 2 under 2 I don't wake unless a baby cries lol!
