Breastfeeding and hayfever medication

I'm a chronic hayfever sufferer and today after what was probably the worst hayfever reaction I've ever had in my life I went into the chemist only to be told they don't recommend any of the hayfever medication whilst breastfeeding and if I am desperate I need to go see my doctor so I can discuss the risks and problems associated with taking them and work out a treatment plan. So I'm going to have to go to the doctors on Monday but I am just wondering if anyone has taken a hayfever medication whilst breastfeeding with no issues or have any natural suggestions for me. Because I can't really live like this.

I am much the same as you Court, I was told Loratadine was the best one for BF'ing, but pretty well all the others are to avoid because they haven't had their safety tested. They said that there's only microscopic amounts that go into the breastmilk. Which didn't really bother me considering how bad my hayfever was. I kept a close eye on DD to make sure there were no reactions from her, which there weren't. I asked different chemists about the same thing and their replies were much the same. Either that or for me to have the ones which made me sleepy, which i tried first, but i found that was too much, i'd be sleeping all day because they only last like 4 hours, and then so would DD. It sucked.

I thought clarytine was fine? My pharmicist told me its fine, but most others lime telfast arent. I used it as needed based on that and from speaking to other bf-ing mums who had been told the same thing. I had no issues woth milk or anything, ds had no reactions either

Shan Claratyne is Loratadine, its just the name of the drug, itms? so it is fine :)

Thanks hun, will go get some then. Even if I only take it when it becomes to much to handle. I don't know what set me off today but even my skin on my face and scalp were itching like mad and I'm still suffering 8hrs later. I generally take the drowsy ones because they work better for me but a friend of mine used it when her bub was a newborn and the baby became so drowsy she wouldn't feed properly and caused no end of problems so I think I'll avoid it.
