Installing a freestanding dishwasher.

Has anyone here ever installed a freestanding dishwasher in a laundry?

We're moving and DH has found a gorgeous house that is perfect in every way except the kitchen. The kitchen is small and has no dishwasher. The laundry is beside the kitchen and DH assures me it is large enough to install a dishwasher as well as the washing machine and dryer.
I hope to be able to put a double adapter on the washing machine taps and outlet pipes.

Has anyone done something similar?
Is such a plan even feasible? Please say yes because this place has a view to die for and the back yard is a children's dream.

yep its possible. We have a freestanding dishwasher that we have installed in our kitchen. Its pretty easy to do as well. :)

Eta, also we have had our dishwashers on wheels in the past, and when not in use its been hidden away then comes out when its time to put it on. There are adapters you can get to put on the kitchen tap spout, and the drain hose sits in the kitchen sink. Was easy to use and we had no real problems doing it that way for the last however long.

Wouldn't it be inconvenient to unload it if it wasn't near all the cupboards and drawers? For all the backwards and forwarding you may as well just wash them by hand.

I am pretty sure I have seen double adapters for the taps. I guess you would have to connect to the drain under the tub. Is there a cupboard under the tub? Would the landlord mind having a tube sized hole in the side of the tub cupboard?

I would rather back and forward than hand wash. I hate touching washing up water, even with gloves on it leaves me feeling dirty and for some reason, doing a load of hand washing gives me a ferociously itchy nose and watering eyes. I may, in fact, be genuinely allergic to washing up :o lol.

ETA - Mum used to have one on wheels. I wasn't sure if they still made them.

We had ours temporarily set up in the laundry in our old house over a week until DH installed it in the kitchen. It was a total PITA. As much as I hate doing dishes, going back and fourth with dirty and then clean dishes was just a nuisance.

Well they stopped making them for a few years, but some brands have started making them again due to customer demand for them again :)

My laundry cabinet has a hole through the side already for the washing machine pipes - the length of the dishwasher drain would be the main issue I think. Depending on where it was, either it's hoses or the w/m hoses wouldn't be long enough to reach to the tub unless you moved one of them closer when you wanted to use it.

We had ours installed in the laundry in our old place, we never had a problem with it.

Yep my IL's have it. You just get into the habit of putting things in the dishwasher instead of in the sink to alleviate dripping etc. Unpacking is fine. Like you I hate dish washing water. And if I have to wash by hand I normally wash the dishes with straight detergent and a wet cloth and then rinse in scolding water to prevent having to fill the sink. Blurgh. It saves water too.

Yep I had this at my last place. It was a huge pita but I just got my kids to ferry dishes in and out. I also know of someone that would put all the clean dishes in a washing basket and take them to the kitchen and unload.
Still preferred it to handwashing. And our kitchen was so small there was no where to leave dirty dishes by the sink anyway.

Maybe you could get one of those tea trolley type things to unload onto and wheel into kitchen in one go.

Onyx, we had our washing machine connected to cold water and our dishwasher connected to the hot but you could get one of those double thingys easily from Bunnings or Reece if you wanted both on cold.

yep we did it. just got a double tap thing and hooked it up. was annoying having to walk there to do dishes (about 10m away). so I moved it to the other side of our bench, so still not in the kitchen but now only 2m awsy.
