Video Job Application

is this the new way to apply for jobs?!

I've found a Reception/Admin role that's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, great hours, part time, close to home etc. The thing is their initial request is for a video application outlining why you think you're suitable for the role.

Now, i don't have a problem with that, but given it's a highend luxury car dealership the skeptic in me can't help but wonder if this is a sneaky method to rule out candidates who aren't "pretty" enough, given it's a "face of the company " type role?

So i guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has applied for a job using this method? I've been a sahm for the last 4.5 years, so not really au fait with what the current recruitment practices are :o

My feeling is the same as yours, they're doing it to make sure they're getting the look they're after. Although I could be wrong...

I can definitely tell you it's not the norm though, I've never seen an advertisement call for a video application.

yeah it seemed odd but then i thought, well i have been out of the work force for a while so maybe it was the new way to do things!

They need to supply alternative reasonable methods of application.. Or it's discrimination. They can't expect everyone to have access to recording equipment or a smartphone.

Having said that, $100 says everyone's hit the nail on the head and they're vetting for attractiveness levels! I hope this doesn't become a common theme in customer service, how disgraceful.

If they are vetting for attractiveness then they would do at an interview anyway so just bringing it one step forward really - could be a positive thing some might come across better on video than on paper or in an interview. Some jobs paper cant really do justice so I can see why a video would be better at narrowing down appropriate candidates. Just asking for a video will narrow it down, far easier to send off a piece of paper. If it is the sort of role you would enjoy I think probably asking for this format is to your advantage.

Photos I think are worse that really is only appearance but video they are looking for a bit more.
