HCG levels after 6000
Hi all,
Can someone please tell me if its true that HCG levels stop doubling after 6000? i had my first bloods drawn at 5 weeks 5 days and result was 10886 and then at 6 weeks exactly they were 16088. So havent doubled - worked out doubling time at about 83 hours...i had more drawn today and will see i guess. I had a mc earlier in feb and my levels were rising but not doubling then as well - although i bleed the entire time which i havent been this pregnancy. Wish i hadnt done the bloods - just makes it more stressful :(

They do double, it just takes longer. 72-96 hours is normal for higher HCG numbers, then longer as they get even higher. After 6000, HCG numbers become irrelevant unless they start falling.

so in that case - i shouldnt be to concerned??? my last preg they kept rising and on the tues were at 35000 and then mc 2 days later - again, wish i hadnt bothered!

It's normal. It's one of those things that can become meaningless after a certain range. Yes, they can continue to rise and still end in miscarriage. Yes, they can continue to rise and go on to be a healthy pregnancy. There is no way of knowing once HCG is higher than 6000, what's going to happen. Likewise, you can have an early scan and see a heartbeat, and then this could be a healthy pregnancy or it could end in a loss.
IMO, early pregnancy sucks because it's completely out of our control. No one can tell you how this will end. FX it goes well.

I have had a m/c, 2 girls, and am now 9 wks pregnant again. I didn't get my HCG levels tested with the m/c but I did with the other 3 and I've never had the levels double. I think the first two were pretty similar. I had the levels tested around 7 weeks and they were something like 175,000 and went up to 190,000 two days later. So, nowhere near doubling. The Dr said it was because the higher they get the slower they rise. Even this time I got them tested earlier and at 5wks 1day they were 10,000, and at 5wks 3days 15,000. So, not double again but it didn't worry me, and I have just had a scan that showed everything is fine so far. I definitely wouldn't worry about it xx

Thanks heaps heaven. My GP called me tonight and my levels today have gone to 27000 so again not the best but definitely gone up. Just going to book a scan hopefully for tomorrow to know for sure :)
