Wondering if anyone has had a bub diagnosed with hip dysplasia after six months?
DS2 passed all the checks for his first check ups but today at his 8mth check was showing "soft markers" for hip dysplasia. MCHN wants me to get it checked by the GP for a possible ultrasound.
Has anyone been in this position before? If he does have a problem, how do they treat it in older babies? Do they still do a hip brace?
After six months, they use xray instead of ultrasound. From what I've seen/read, that's about the only difference in the way it's treated. How it's treated will depend on the severity of it. Things like double nappies don't help after a young age. I know someone who's child wasn't diagnosed until about 8-9 months (from memory) but her treatment was exactly the same as DD1's who was diagnosed at 7 weeks.

I was told that the x-ray shows more after six months than the ultrasound, so that's why they prefer to use it.
Could be absolutely nothing....
Probably is :) No other signs or markers. But I worry anyway... That's our job right??
MummyNaomi DS was diagnosed quite late 5-6 months. Also have a friend whose DD was rediagnosed at six months after being given all clear after harness use earlier - as said previously intial treatment often the same really (brace) unless very severe. After about 6 months the bone gets to dense for ultrasound to show enough detail. Have had another friend referred by MCHN due to uneven creases but x-Ray showed no problems.
I think PZ DD was diagnosed later than often the case but not sure was 6 months.
Yep, Bailey was diagnosed just before 6 months, and was given an extra month to see how the bone was growing, then put in a brace for 6 months (until 13 months).
He had no obvious signs (no uneven leg creases or clicky hips), it was only that he also happened to be very low toned so the paed ordered xrays and the hip dysplasia showed up.
Its pretty uncommon with boys

ETA - I was told that at that age the treatment (brace) is generally for as long as they are old, itms, as they have layed down a fair bit of bone by then and need to correct the bone growth
