We are looking at buying a new house, and one that we are looking at is two storey.I have only ever lived in a single storey house, and am wondering what happens if you have problems with a light or any of the electrics on the bottom floor? It's not like you can just get an electrician to climb up in the roof like you could a single storey.
Can anyone shed some light (no pun intended) on this?
Depends on where the lights are. Most lights you can access using a normal ladder
No I mean like from the other side. We've had problems here with our downlights and the electrician had to get up into the roof space. Or if we wanted to chance the lights? Is there a cavity between the firsrt and second floor or is it all just cement?
What if you have a flat roofed house with no crawl space? Or you live in a skyscraper?, or what about caravans?, or people who live in igloos?:lol:
A good sparky will figure it out

My DH is a sparky so I just asked him...there is usually a cavity for access so if you had a problem with a downlight for example, the sparky would most likely need to cut into the ceiling. If it's not downlights the fitting might be able to be removed instead.
Oh I have no doubt a good sparky will work it out. It's how much it'll cost me and how easy it is to make any changes that I'm interested in!:

We live in a two storey house and just had ceiling fans installed downstairs, the sparky drilled 3 holes in the roof and one in the wall to get all the cables across and down to the PowerPoint but looking at it all now you wouldn't no
A bit OT but look out for air intakes for ducted heating upstairs. Draws all hot air up and nearly impossible to get warm downstairs. Some genius builders don't think it through very well!!!
