Advice: 22month old stopped breastfeeding & napping overnight

I was still breastfeeding my 22month old on demand, around every hour or so say & night. She was also waking at 9, napping at 3pm for 2 hours and sleeping at 11pm.

We recently got struck by a bad bacterial infection, she got an extremely high fever and stopped eating/drinking, including breastmilk. I thought it would be temporary but it has been 7days without bfing. Whenever I offer my milk, even in a glass or bottle she is refusing it, sometimes when she sees me expressing she actually gags so I am thinking that bfing is over. Needless to say I am feeling a little in shock and depressed, never thought I would have weaned overnight especially since my milk constituted 90% if her dietary intake. Now I have to use food as 100% of her diet and I am overwhelmed. Whilst breastfeeding I was feeding her a vegan diet (with occasional honey or eggs) but she ate so little do now I am concerned she won't be getting enough calories or nutrition. She was chubby before and now post sickness she has lost so much weight. If anyone has suggestions of books, daily food intake etc I would be grateful.

She has also dropped her nap completely, something else I was totally unprepared for. My daughter us very spirited and whilst awake I spend every second with her, she is not one for come tell independent play do that 2 hours was when I did EVERYTHINg! Cleaning errands and much needed rest, without it I am not sure how I will get through. As she also breastfeed to sleep getting her to bed at night has been rough, last night she didn't go to bed until 2am n woke up at 7:45 (she also woke 5 times during the night, she would night feed around 7times before). I am just feign really overwhelmed and have anxiety over what to do, and with no naps I don't even have a minute to collect myself ;my MIL who used to watch my daughter 2 hours once a week has just gone overseas for 8weeks, n my hubby is not that great at keeping her entertained for my than 10mins )

Is there any chance that you are pregnant? A change in child's feeding, and sleeping (i also feed to sleep), habits has been first signs of pregnancy in me. It was also a trigger for DD to start eating more solids, so keep offering and your little one might take it up.

Yep, kids that don't nap is tough, especially energetic ones! you could try to start a 'quiet time', some nice big pillows on the floor and books (or tv).

Definitely not pregnant - she only weaned because of her illness, her nose was so congested everytime she sucked for more than a second she couldn't breathe. She would try to breastfeed a few times a day for the first 5 days but now (day 7) she doesn't want a bar of it, her nose is still congested, but I feel that even once it clears, she just wont go back to it. I tried to do some quiet time with her about 6 hours after waking, but she wasn't interested, any time I went into a darkened room or did anything quiet she immediately threw a tantrum and ran out the room to continue playing - before napping she never really did 'quiet play' - even when we read books she is talking over me and getting up every minute to change the book or do something else.

I'm hoping she begins to eat more soon and eventually settles into a proper wake/bed time. Just wanted to know if any ohter mums went through something similar where they toddler weaned/cut naps completely cold turkey due to sickness or otherwise

That sounds overwhelming. I would expect at that age that she might still go back to day sleeps. Can you try doing your night time bed routine during the day to see if that helps? Or lying with her and sleeping too? If not could you even give her half an hour of TV time at nap time to give yourself a break or a chance to get things done? Something we all say we won't do as parents but sometimes survival is more important!!

She might also go back to breastfeeding, but also she might not. You could try lots of skin to skin, and having baths together. Often babies will latch on when there is no pressure to feed, so just bathing together or being around her with no top on could do the trick.

With regard to her diet, she will need things like meat or meat substitute by that age, regardless of breastfeeding. Iron and zinc are very important for brain development and bm is not designed to be a key source of iron.
