Give your machine a rinse out. I use epsom salts and put on a full cycle. Sometimes this happens when there is a build up of powder.
I change between powder and liquid when this happens
Oh ok will vinegar do? Does this happen if you just use liquid only? Mayby I should switch
Do you only wash the light colours together and the dark colours in a seperate wash?
No but that's never been an issue before its only since I got a front loader I think
Does the filter need cleaning?
I really think it's the darks with lights, especially in a front loader that uses hardly any water at all.
Definitely would be washing in a mixed load.
You need to wash whites seperate and darks, coloured etc.
As ausgirl said, there is minimal water so any dye leakage would be responsible.
A good hot napisan soak might get your brightness back.
Front loaders need a lot less detergent than uprights, so often the greyness is detergent build up. . There's a choice magazine article about this where they recommend using powder not liquid in front loaders, at half the recommended amount. We had the grey problem too, and when we switched to half the powder with vinegar in the rinse, problem solved.
Thanks everyone ill try all your suggestions but was just thinking it happens with not mixed couloirs as well so I don't think it's that
If it's an issue with mixing colours/whites the grab some colour catchers at the supermarket. They go grey instead of the clothes!
Totally off topic here. I read the title as why is my hair going grey  time to go to bed!
JB no idea but we've just got a front loader so will keep this issue in mind, I don't separate colours either. Hope you get it sorted.
