DD is not happy to be sitting. She whinges, cries and works up to screaming until you stand up with her. Same position up on your shoulder, in the glider/rocking chair, nup, not good enough, but stand up and she's fine :wall: What is the difference??????
My back is killing me. Is there some proven reason that holding a baby while standing is preferable for them? Or is or just my DS?
My DD is the same and has been since 6 weeks, now 20 months. It must feel safer or something because she is up higher and has a better view of perceived dangers, particularly when tired or feeling vulnerable/sick. Not sure why, but yes, hard on the back!
Ive found the same thing with just about all babies Ive worked with/ cuddled. maybe we feel less tense/ move a bit free-er when standing? I dont know but you certainly arent alone.
My dd was the same when a bit younger. Killer on the back.
LOL ours have all been like that - we don't understand it either.
My DD does the exact same. I've never stood and rocked/walked more than the week she was sick!

I personally believe she has this inbuilt altitude switch that alerts her when you sit down and she's not 110% asleep

But they always know don't they? You can even trick them into thinking you're standing while sitting!
That drives me mental!!
Ds2 is the same here; I haven't successfully tricked him into thinking I'm standing when sitting, particularly in the middle of the night with creaky floorboards
Same with all of mine. I think it might be a natural and unconscious body movement while you're standing whereas there is none while you're sitting.
So glad it's a common thing! lol Aimz we've tried tricking too to no avail LOL Beatrix we have similar theories about a switch or sensor haha :lol: Munchkins Mum that's an interesting theory too, you could be onto something there. Back to the primal instincts that babies definitely have. Could be the movement thing too Kim. *Sigh* Oh how I need to see my Chiro!
Mine were the same! I always thought it was because of being on a slightly different angle. When sitting we tend to lean back a bit. But sitting straight upright didn't work either. The only thing that worked for DS was walking up & down the hallway for 2 or 3 hours before bursting into tears when he'd promptly fall asleep lol. Drove me nuts.
DD was the same when she was tiny and even now if she wakes in the night or is upset during the day.
Yep same here too! Thankfully has started letting me sit with her.
Us too. I have watched that many movies standing, just to keep a baby settled in my arms, it's ridiculous.
My DH says they're fitted with an altimeter!

It's because they are contrary little so and so's who happen to understand completely that it is more comfortable for you to be sitting so naturally they prefer that you stand..... ;)
