Projectile vomitting

I can't remember if DD1 did this or not but DD2 ( 1 week old ) has had two big projectile vomits today , one around morning tea time and one just now ..

Normal or not ? :/

My DS2 was a very chucky baby and did projectile vomit after a feed a few times. We'd both be wearing it! It scared me the first time for sure.

Is it just milk? Is she well otherwise?

She has done little spews since my milk came in but nothing big until today and it was twice today after two of her feeds ,it was just milk but a lot of it ..
But her other feeds today have been fine .

If it is just milk and not every feed and she doesn't have a fever or seem unwell at all, I would chalk it up as normal. As I said, DS2 was a happy chucker, it never bothered him and he kept stacking on the weight much to my surprise judging by what was coming out.

Of course if you are at all concerned, get her looked at or have a chat to your health nurse for peace of mind :)

DD has done this a couple of times already too Cinder. But she is fine :)

I'm sure it happened to DD1 I just can't remember .. Feel like a first time mum

I will keep an eye on her and if it happens again I will see GP or nurse ,getting her weighed again this week with health nurse anyway so will be good to see how her weight is going ..

Some babies do this, but it's often just a laundry problem if they're otherwise ok. It always seems like so much more than it really is, too. My DD did it a lot, which was uber annoying but she was otherwise ok.

Dd2 was a huge projectile vommiter.
For the first 3 to 4 months she would projectile after nearly every feed.

Initially it scared me and anyone who saw how much would come out.

However she was not in pain and she was a little chubber so doc was not fussed and just told me she has reflux.

Grew out of it by 6mnths only occasional reflux here and there

Ds did massive projectile vomits every feed we would both end up sitting in a puddle or half the room would get painted he did it till about6 monthsish but it never affected his weight gain he went from 25percentile to 75th percentile in 3 months

Yes dd would get amazing projection on her spews and the volume used to astound me!!! Generally it happened when I offered her the second side. Needless to say I stopped offering and started block feeding her because she could suck more than her tummy could handle. She was a very heavy baby by 12 weeks too so she was obviously getting plenty.

She can only take one side ATM so I try and sit her up for a while in between ..

But she slept well last night with no vomits through the night ..fed every couple of hours ..

I was wondering about my diet , and I realized that all week nothing has changed except for yesterday I had a decaf dairy free coffee in the morning , wondering if that could have effected her ?

DS1 did it for the first time at 4 days old! Lucky my mum was here because I freaked out lol but he did it almost every feed! I had an abundance of milk and found if I fed him laying down so it was flowing as fast it helped a lot other than that I just always had towels and spare clothes for us both. I swear he used to hit the wall on the opposite side of the room and much to my disgust when I was cleaning between the bed and the bedside table I found spew splatter that's been there for two years :sick:

DD would randomly projectile vomit, mostly at night when we were all snuggled in bed :wall: I soon learned to cover her swaddle and the bedding with a few towels. I freaked out the first time it happened but mum reassured me it was normal as long as baby wasn't continuously doing it- ie not keeping any feeds down.

Alas at 17 months she still up-chucks random meals, for no real reason.

It's unlikely to be your diet, more likely just a combination of immature sphincter control and overfilling :)

No more huge vomits , only a couple of small ones , but last couple of days she has been so unsettled , crying ll the time , very windy it seems , really fussy and frustrated At the boob .. Wants it all the time but a lot of the times I offer if to her she pulls away and cries ...:/
