Not remotely answering your question, but is there any reason you can't hang the dryer on the wall?
That's what we did, because we've been happy with our top loader, but have a reasonably small laundry ...
I hope someone can answer your question, though :)
Unfortunately not unless I put it in the garage and I really don't want to do that...
No, fair enough - that would be a hassle ...
Hopefully some front loader users will drop by soon :)
We had our dryer on top of our washing machine for years and never had an issue. Just buy one of those mat thingys when you buy your machines.
I had a Samsung front loader which broke down after 7 years. I took it to get fixed but the fixer guy took aaaaaages so I cracked it and just went out and bought another Samsung because we got a really good deal. There aren't too mnay dos and don'ts really. Don't use too much detergent. Do clean the drum often so that bacteria doesn't build up and your clothes don't get smelly, the newer models have a drum clean cycle to make it easier. Umm, keep on top of hte filters otherwise the machine will just stop mid cycle.
I have an Electrolux dryer and have never had any issues.
I have a front loader and hate the damn thing!
Both my washer and dryer are Fisher and Paykel.
I was always under the impression you use liquid washing detergent, but apparently it stuff the machine. Use powder and warm/hot water. Our machine heats the water so it doesn't drain our hot water tank!
We've had an LG front loader since 2005 with no problems. No special rules really.
Do as Rosetti said - use powder not liquid detergent.
Do - I think the machine does say to do a warm wash every now & then but it doesn't have to be every time. I do nappies on a warm cycle.
Do make sure the drawer that the powder goes in is closed when the machine is in use. DH has managed to leave it open and it made a lovely soapy puddle on the floor. Lucky I found it early in the cycle.
Don't bother trying to open the door once it has started because it will be too late. I do so many loads of washing anyway that if something is missed it just goes in the next one. Do put your stockings and bras in a bag to avoid tangling.
I've never had to clean the drum. The door seal & powder drawer gets a bit mucky sometimes. I just wipe it over with a microfibre cloth occassionally. By occassionally I mean that I've done it maybe 3 times in the last five years .
We have an AEG condenser dryer and I love it so so so much!! If you can afford it it's worth the extra money to stop the condensation that fills the laundry.
I have a Bosch front loader, 5.5 kg from memory (may be 6.5kg) and I love it. Always use powder and use a hot wash about once a week. It also has a 15 min cycle which I LOVE LOVE LOVE with kids' clothes. It's the most power efficient and water efficient (56L per wash) on the market when I bought it.
I have a Westinghouse dryer which I got a builder mate to hang on the wall. Dryers are much of a muchness - they all suck power like nothing else. I have an external door open when the dryer is on, as otherwise the laundry can get mouldy.
I have a Miele front end and a Miele condenser dryer. I love them both. The washing machine washes so well, comes out clean every time. I occasionally do a really hot wash on my white towels and that is all that's required to keep the machine clean. I like to add some vinegar to the rinse too sometimes and that gives it a bit of a descale.
The dryer is amazing. Like pp mentioned they all suck energy. I like the condenser though because you can stack it and the water can just be poured out after the cycle. No need to have a fan going in the laundry or a window open.
I also find the Miele great for not ruining my clothes. They have a honeycomb core so that nothing snags or gets ruined. I can chuck in my pantyhose and not worry about them at all.
I just went shopping for a new front loader yesterday. We have an LG that is 7-8 years old and I think the drum/spin cycle is about to go - it has started to make a horrendous noise although it is still doing the job but I want to be prepared because I can't go more than 3 days without a washer! I only went to 1 shop as I am pressed for time to spend on this but I think we will get a Siemen's (via E&S trading). They key thing for me is that it has a 5 year warranty and no other brand seems to have this. Also, they are (apparently), the number 1 seller of washers in Europe. I don't want to spend the Bosche/Miele prices, so this seems to be the happy medium...but am interested in opinions on Siemens.
Our dryer is horrible - it takes ages to dry and our bills are huge - probably should replace this as well but I will wait for after summer as I don't use it much in summer.
Ive got the same washer as Divvy. I dont mind it but just make sure you dont leave clothes in it overnight coz the rubber ring thing gets moldy and damn hard to clean!!!!!
I bought the fisher and paykel areosense dryer not long ago. Love it!
Stops automatically when clothes are dried.
I use that occasionally only and usually try to dry it on the line first and finish it off in the dryer if still damp
I ended up with the 7.5kg Samsung front loader. Which I am in love with. There is a 15min wash for quick stuff... It tells you when it needs a clean. You can set it to what time you want it to start. good water/elect rating
The dryer I brought was a 6kg Electrolux Sensor dryer - it stops when it senses the clothes are dry. I love that too...
Haha. Exactly the combination I have.
I bought a Samsung 8kg front loader with the ecobubble wash thing, plus it has a kid button lock option! I love it. Always owned a front loader.
I usually wash in cold, don't bother about separating colours from whites, but do sheets, towels on a hot wash.
Do clean the drum when it tells you so... Also do leave the drawer and door slightly open after washes to stop mould.
