Where was your 3yo "at"?

Yo!

My DS1 is only 4 weeks apart from my DN1 - and they are beautifully different!

Comparisons are natural, but it doesn't have to be competition - and I love seeing how completely different they are in terms of what they like, what they're good at, what they're learning and what they focus on at different ages. :)

At the moment, DS1 loves telling stories - he will make up a story, complete with pantomime-style calls for audience participation, actions and sound effects! DS1 can also jump off just about anything he can climb up and jump off of almost anything with no fear, but appropriate calculation in terms of landing surfaces ;)

DN1 can recite the alphabet (with the occasional omission of P and Q) and point out about 10 different countries on a globe of the world!

What amazing things can your brilliant 3yo do?

She can throw a huge meltdown over the fact she has her own drool on her arm and keep it going for more than 15 minutes.

So high hygeine levels, exemplary salivatory prowess, and a flair for high powered "method performance" acting!

Perhaps my DS can write and direct, and your DD can act?

My DS1 is only just 4 so hope you don't mind me jumping in :) When he was 3 he could name all the trucks by their proper names ('that's not a double dumper mum, it's a double dump TRUCK!'), he could say the entire alphabet and recognise letters too.

Wow! What clever little kiddies you all have. Such varying skills and talents. I love watching kids a little older than DD1 and seeing where she might go next. She is just starting on the imagination front. I'm looking forward to it developing.

DD1 is heading towards 3, so I hope you don't mind me jumping in. She has quite a few academic-type skills. She is obsessed with letters and numbers. She loves watching YouTube clips of various number, letter, shape and nursery rhyme songs. As a result she knows her alphabet, can recognise all upper case and most lower case letters, she can tell you numerous words that start with each letter, she can count to 14 accurately. She LOVES animals and as a result will tell you the sound pretty much any animal makes. If I don't know the sound she will ask to "look on my phone" so we can find out together (if anyone can find a video clip of a poteroo making a noise please let me know- me saying I *think* it sounds like a kangaroo is not enough apparently). Most days everyone in the family is a different animal (stipulated by DD1(, based on the colour top we are wearing. I'm loving her imagination.

I'm loving seeing my DS1 find his own mind. He's been following DD through play for the last, ooh, two years? Since he could walk and wanted to play just about. But now he is finding himself. And it is gorgeous.

My DD surprises me she can recite the alphabet, the months of the year and days of the week all from listening to her 5yr old brother singing songs about them. I've also noticed although she has difficulty with speech she uses words like devastated and excitement and can say them very clearly.

And her stubbornness astounds me that girls can hold her ground nearly longer then me ;)

dd is awesome at somersaults and starjumps.

My ds learned to ride a bike when he turned 3. Now he just rides everywhere and surprises most people we come across. He is very in toed, so when he runs or walks he is likely to fall over, so it's nice to see him keeping up with everyone using a bike.

When he eats he can spread food from here to next week and always needs a change of clothes afterwards.

He can call his grandparents on Skype. On his own. When I'm not even in ear shot.

He can sample every piece of fruit in the fruit bowl, and place them back in such a way that we don't know he's done it until we go to grab a bit.

At 3 DS could read all upper and lower case letters, and numbers. Was learning to read double digits (ie 34) and could tell me which letters, words begin with.
(We are now working on hundreds thanks to the hundreds of buses we see on a weekly basis)

He loved copying Daddys cardio routine (push ups, star jumps, sit ups)

Was very even tempered and could be reasoned with easily (that went out the window the week he turned 4)

He is a very tidy eater. Much cleaner than his Dad lol and hates to get his hands dirty so is quite good with cutlery.

He loves to help and will do jist about anything if you can phrase it that way (and he believes you lol)

My nephew spent so much time with his computer tech Poppy when he was 3 that he could correctly identify any part of the insides of a computer. I've got a video of it on my FB, it's very cute!

My current 3 yo nephew can make up elaborate stories about dinosaurs, and we can even understand 2 or 3 words ;)

DD2 is good at building things from
Lego (not instructions just free thinking)

She thinks shes good at Trampoline, riding her quad bike & gymnastics.

According to her she's also good at having babies (ie teddy down the pants & yanking it out) ROFL!

DS can recite the alphabet, recognise numbers to teens and most letters (upper and lower case). He can play eye spy by telling you the sound the word starts with. And he's an awesome rhymer!

He can make Lego cars from scratch, and can walk to the park and back without asking to be carried (abt 8 mins each way)!

Chody - yes, DS wants to know about animal noises too - we've had a tawny frog mouth and zebra in the last two days...and no, saying it sounds a 'bit like .....' Is NOT good enough! :)
