How long to a wait for a D&C?

Just wondering how long you had to wait before you got in for a D&C through the public system??

I went in the day after I found out I had had a mmc at 12.5wks - I could have waited but bub had stopped growing 3wks earlier & I just wanted it over with.

I have been told I need to wait for them to call me to book me in. I don't want to wait. Bub stopped growing 4 weeks ago, I'm sick of waiting. I wonder what would happen if I just turned up to emergency and told them I was cramping.

OMG ladybug, that is terrible! I cannot believe they are making you wait. You have my sympathy.
I would try the emergency dept or go to your GP & let all your grief & tears pour out, explaining that you want/need closure & being told to wait is adding to your stress. That's disgusting.

Sorry I should say I only found out last week, but I just need it over.

Working in the hospital system they usually do make you wait unless your bleeding until they can arrange for a time to suit the theatre and Dr. It sucks because they are not considering women's mental health what so ever but I guess because they don't see it as an emergency unless you have a good compassionate obstetrician or private health insurance where they get a nice salary to do so the verdict often is to wait until it suits them. I hope the wait is almost over. I have been in that situation before and they refused to do a D&C when I wanted it done. They kept saying to come back in a week and every time I did they would say the same thing to come back in another week. I ended up m/c naturally 3 weeks later :(

I had a missed miscarriage at 12.5 weeks in May this year, baby had stopped growing at around 7 weeks.
My 12 weeks scan was late Friday morning, and after calming down from the horrible news, the sonographer said they would send a report to my GP straight away and that I could go there later that day to discuss options.

Turns out the hospital called my GP who then rang me to offer me an appointment that afternoon. My GP phoned the hospital during my appointment to request the referral for D&C, but I had to wait for the hospital to call me with a time that I could be booked in.

I got the call from the hospital the next day, and was advised I would have to have a women's health consultation before booking in the surgery. I had the consultation on the Monday and the D&C on the Wednesday. So all up inlcuding the weekend in between the scan and the women's health consult, I had to wait 5 days to have the D&C.
I was instructed that if I had any pain or bleeding before the D&C just to go straight to emergency.

I was told that it could have been longer, and I just got lucky with a spot on the surgical list, last one of the day. If that spot hadn't been available I would have been up for a lot longer wait.

If there was ever a need to have a D&C again, but faced a potential long wait, I would definatley opt for the misoprostol and kick start it with the medication rather than wait for the surgery.

You need to heal and greive and in my experience you can only begin to do that once the miscarriage is complete.
So the sooner you can get booked in the better for you and your emotional well being.

Thanks for your experiences. They ended up just calling me (after I chased them for a while) and I'm going in Wednesday. Glad it will be over soon.
