Heart palpitations
Before I got pregnant I was seeig my gp due to getting regular heart palpitations which we found out were due to low iron levels. For the last week I have been getting them again. Spoke to my midwife who told me they are common and nothing to be to concerned about and I see my ob on Thursday so will talk to him then as well. I prob have low iron again and I am very very stressed and anxious atm so will explore this with him. My question is does anyone know how to reduce them a little!! I have them for ages every night while resting on the couch and when I go to bed. It actually keeps me awake - not from the worry of having them but from the fact that the palpitations are so regular And obvious!

Not sure what mine were caused by but I had to to cut out caffeine completely from my diet after 3 years I'm finally able to have small amounts again with no effect

Not sure how much it will help you, since it's probably a different cause. I get a lot of palpitations caused by a problem I have with my autonomic nervous system, wonderfully they stopped during my first pregnancy (one reason I'm currently really keen to be pregnant again, though as my husband says I'll probably just be trading them for constant vomiting).
Here's some things that help me:
- Plenty of sleep
- Not standing up for too long and generally taking it pretty easy
- Keeping my salt and electrolytes (magnesium phosphate is important for me here too) up, best thing I've found for this is actually Staminade energy drink
- Drinking heaps of water
- Keeping up moderate exercise
Have they checked your iron levels again? Certainly worth a check especially if that was the problem before.
Good luck!
I certainly know how annoying they can be.

Hi, I can't help but just wanted to say Congratulations, I was only thinking about you the other day and wondering how you are going. Turns out your going good with a rainbow bubba on board :)

O thanks kazzo :) I am 24 weeks now. It's dd2s birthday/anniversary next week so I think that stress is contributing to the palps! Looking forward to crossing that bridge and moving onto the next phase - I am finding my anxiety
Is a little through the roof atm!! So excited to meet little rainbow though!!
Thanks for the info ngiyi and jellybean. I am going to ask my ob to test my iron levels when I see him on Thursday - the palps are driving me bonkers! I hope it's not caffeine related...my morning coffee is my favourite part of the day :)

Awe that could be a contributing factor. It must be hard. Have you got anything planned for next week. Maybe organising something could help you with your anxiety and give you focus.
Could you switch to decaf for a little while and see if that helps?

Oh you poor thing sounds like a very tricky and anxious time indeed.
Another thing I find that can help my palpitations is breathing exercises. Might be worth a try could help the anxiety too. Almost any kind of breathing exercise can be good. I tend to use these ones http://www.rileylee.net/Breath_Exercises.pdf

Stress and anxiety will make it worse also

Sort, I just saw there were more responses from last time! Kazzo - we had a little get together yest and did cake and a balloon release which was just awesome! Tomorrow for her actual bday we are just going to relax at home I think - maybe have a picnic. I also sent out some little rememberence cards which was really nice to do with my bestie.
I also decided to finish work as I work in a very stressful job. Funnily enough the palps have reduced dramatically!! Still having them from time to time but not ervryday thank goodness...it was starting to drive me crazy!!

Sounds like a lovely way to remember your baby girl. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.:comfort:
Sounds like leaving work was a great choice.

Re: Heart palpitations
I've never had heart problems but when I was around 20 weeks pregnant i started having weird pulpitations and couldn't breathe properly and it turned out to be an iron problem
I just started eating lots of lentils and it worked itself out :)
