DS wet the bed last night....happens occasionally. Because he wears undies, he gets wet from waist to toes....DH thinks he should have a shower or a bath then and there. I disagree - I don't need him any more awake than he is already! Just wondering whether anyone else does this? Do they have one in the morning, or do you wait til their usual bath time, which for us isn't until arvo/evening?
I'd probably compromise and rub him down with a damp towel - just enough to get the pee smell off y'know?
On the rare times it happens here (2 are trained overnight but the 5yo and 2yo still wear nappies) we just change the sheets and clothes and shower them in the morning.
When my son wets his bed it's just quickly taking off the wet pjs and if he is really wet just a quick towel wipe and sprinkle of powder... My aim is to get him back in bed as soon as possible. Plus the brolly sheets are great... So quick to pull off and everything else is dry.
It doesn't happen too much in our household anymore, but I would change the sheets, wipe DS down with some baby wipes and get him a fresh pair of pj's. Shower in the morning.
We're not night training yet, but there have been times that DD has completely wet through overnight. We just strip her, wipe down with wipes and re-dress. Like you say, I don't want her any more awake than she already is!
i wouldn't make him shower in the middle of the night, but would give him a quick rinse shower in the morning.
First thing in the morning I shower if any wet the bed
It depends on how bad it is, but normally I just change them, quickly wipe them down with a towel or a baby wipe, then get them back to sleep. (not forgetting to pull the sheets off before I go back to bed myself) My dd's do get rather upset when they wet the bed, so its more about keeping them calm, and getting them comfortable there and then, they can shower in the morning really.
But if my dh suggested I bathe them there and then, well next time it happens he can get up with them and do it. Im sure he'll only try once before he understands why I try to do minimal at the time. ;)
As others have said... if legs are wet and smelly. I do a quick wipe with wipes of a damp towel, and shower in the morning.
We're not at this stage yet as Moo wears a night nappy, but I imagine we would wipe him down with a wet washer.
Wouldn't ever think to shower them at night unless my DD1 specifically requested it. We just make things as comfy as possible with towels, washer, new sheets and such and get back to sleep, plenty of time to work things out more thoroughly in the morning.
Yeah, we have the Connie bed cover, so its easy as to change - just take that off and the top sheet. Hadn't thought of wet wipes, as he's TT so we don't use them anymore. DS arks up about a wet washer (which is what I usually do), so this might be a better option - thanks ;)
DS gets really upset that he's wet the bed too - it's unusual for him, but we did see it coming as he'd been up with nightmares (about Lego building gone wrong, lol!) earlier.
DH is quite prepared to do the showering etc by himself, but I've told him he's a loony for contemplating it in the middle of the night, especially as DS would have another major meltdown at being forced into the shower! Will tell him that everyone else agrees with me, lol!! ;)
I used to just wait until the morning.
Quick wipe with baby wipes/warm flannel and then towel off here. Minimize a) disruption b) parental sleep loss. LOL
i give them a wipe down with a warm flannel change sheets and pop them in new jarmies
save bath and shower for the morning where we live gets so cold at night so be worse for them to shower
Each child is different so far.
- DD change of clothes/bed and then straight back to bed. Shower in the morning after she wakes up properly in the morning. Does not like being woken up at all!!
- DS1 has to have a shower because he is such a clean boy and is devastated and beside himself when he has wet himself, clean clothes/bed and then settled back in bed.
- DS2 is still in nappies but is a huge wetter so change clothes/bed cleaned with wipes when nappy changed. Settled in our bed. Shower in the morning.
Lordy is nothing simple in our household, LOL!!!
I've never thought of wiping them down at night time, let alone showering or bathing! Am I a bad mother??? We only do washing of body parts if there is vomit involved. If just bed wetting, just a change of clothes, change whatever bedding required and back to bed.
To be completely honest I never thought of showering them in the morning, either. They mustn't be stinky enough for me to notice?
