Magnoplasm for splinters?

Hello, has anyone used magnoplasm to get splinters out? Does it work?

FYI - magnoplasm is essential epsom salts in a thick paste form - it seems to me like it should work for this, given everything else I know about how fab epsom salts are. Just interested in whether anyone else has used it successfully before I lay out the $$.

DD currently has a piece of potato strapped to her hand as that was the other old timers wisdom that Dr Google served up. :pray: one of these works because my shattered nerves can't handle the 6 year-old splinter hysteria!

Yes, husband used it & it worked. Out gp told us to give it a go,

Sorry.. sent mistake! Anyway, gp said to try it & faced with the option of having a needle in his finger & digging it out - husband tried it. Worked well & popped out in a couple of days, it was about a 2-3 cm splinter. Bit gross but much less painful. Good luck. : )

Thanks Andi - wow that sounds like a massive splinter your OH had!!! Luckily for us DD's is a little tiddly one.

I also just read that honey can work too, though I imagine the effect would be milder & take longer than a really strong drawing agent.

We've used this on DS' feet a while back. He wears shoes much more religiously now :P. It worked but it wasn't an instantaneous type of thing, it took a few days for us to get them all out.

I reckon it would but it's so exxie! I've heard bicarb paste helps too.

Kim, it is pretty expensive but we've just had a mossie-bite turned-boil in the house as well this week, so I figure it's probably handy to have some on hand, even for stuff like blind pimples or ingrown hairs, etc. It seems like the sort of thing that would have a pretty long shelf-life anyway.

ETA if it saves me from half an hour of hysterical high-pitched screaming next time there's a splinter it will be worth every dollar. LOL.

I have used it successfully for years. Works a treat. Needs to be replaced every 8-12 hours and used with gusto.

It also works better warm - microwave it until it is spreadable. But not too much, as it retains heat.

I use it for skin infections (particularly around the side of nails) as well as anything stuck into us.

Oh and stick a nice big bandaid over the top.

We use both thars and magnoplasam, magnoplasam lasts forever and is worth it, thars is hard to find now.

I've never heard of it, but I want some now! That being said, send her round here and I'll get to it with a needle and some tweezers! I find digging out splinters particularly satisfying (and I also love cleaning wax out of ears...!).

We used it last night as DH has a splinter. I was bought up with it and it is great.

Thars can be bought at Chemist Warehouse, another ointment we use alot here, great for tinea

Magnoplasms brilliant stuff for drawing loads of things out. Last forever so is worth the bucks.

with the renos we have been using it heaps, works well.
