Our house is almost 20 years old and it's really dated and tired looking. We were looking in the weekend at the paint you can buy where it paints over tiles and baths and basins etc. there are clips on youtube etc, but I just wanted to see if it really is something that normal people can do themselves and get a decent result. Have you done it, or do you know someone who has? What were the results like?
My old neighbour did it in her kitchen and bathroom. She was an elderly lady and did it by herself over the course of a week, so it must have been pretty easy to do. It looked amazing. She also did her kitchen benchtop to match.
I did it on some tiles on the side and splash bit of the bath and around the sink. It looked great, but I wouldn't do it for a permanent thing. It is more like a makeover for sale kind of deal, because it will scratch off over time. Ours were very shiny and smooth but I would assume that a more matt finished tile would hold the product better. But it was easy to do.
I haven't done it personally but I have viewed a house where they had and it looked terrible. Not sure if they used the wrong products or didn't prep correctly or if it was just old but yeah. Looked terrible. It was very scratched, peeling and dodgy looking. I have seen it done on one of those renovation shows & it turned out well initially. As it would because they wouldn't televise it if it looked bad lol. I would say it is definitely only for a short term update.
Agreeing with the short term update.. a couple of friends have done it and it chips very easily...ie if you drop a hairbrush in the bathroom you will end up with a chip.
Thanks everyone. Appreciate the replies. We are going ahead and doing it. It's so much cheaper than any kind of 'real' renovation, so I guess we have to expect the result to reflect that, ITMS.
My mum did hers. It looked good but she never finished it and used a bright blue which looked crap lol. Pretty sure she used the white king brand.
