How to heal a cracked heel?
I have a badly cracked heel, and no clue how to fix it. It's quite deep and long and can be painful.
Both feet, especially the heels, have pretty thick yucky dry skin, and that's where the crack is. I've got skin softening creams and stuff, but they can't really remove/heal dead skin and so I'm at a loss as to what to do. I don't want to use a file or anything near it, it seems like that would make it worse.
For now all I'm doing is applying lansinoh and trying to remember to at least wear socks (I think it all started because I almost always have bare feet). Any other ideas would be much appreciated!

No ideas but I am the same! Hoping for some tips too.
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
I find
Eulactol HEEL BALM gold works really well , you use it twice a day , try and pop socks on a after for while as well, and in between I use coconut oil which I find works really well ..
I also do regular foot scrubs , made with coconut oil or olive oil mixed with sugar or bicarb and give my feet a good scrub and then lather on the cream , I do the scrub a couple if times a week , works wonders for hands and face as well
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
Hi there,
My heels are terrible due to constantly being barefoot. I find the Eulactol to be the best. :)
Cheers.
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
I'm another eulactol gold user too. Since moving out to the outback, my feet get terribly dry and thick skin on them if I don't look after them. I have had some small cracks in my heels and use the eulactol gold until it's finished twice a day, and wear socks after I apply it, usually in the morning when I'm going out the door (means I have to wear shoes that I can wear with socks like my joggers) and then again when I have had my bath/shower, again I put socks on after I apply.
I haven't had cracks in a long time now, since I got a scrubber (like a pumice stone, but not pumice) from the body shop. It's blue and it scrubs the dead skin off so well. I soak my feet for a few minutes before I use it. I have one of those ped-egg things too, which scrape off the dead skin. It's pretty gross, but I don't need to use that so much any more, because my feet are now nice and soft. I also get professional pedicures when I can (not often at the moment, maybe every 4-ish months).
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
I use NS-8 a cream available from pharmacies. I was a big eulactol user for years but the ns-8 is less greasy & gooey but still gives amazing results.
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
I like the hemp cream from the body shop- combined with the special socks they sell also.
When my feet are really bad, I use a 'milky feet' or 'baby feet' treatment on them.
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
Thanks everyone :) I've got a few of the Eulactol ones - why are there different kinds for what seems to be the same thing? It confuses me so I have a couple lol. I just need to remember to use it more often - at the moment I don't even remember every day so I need to set myself a reminder or something twice a day.
Sounds like I need to just wait for the dry skin to kind of soften and grow out the crack. I'm guessing this gonna take a while, bugger that the weather is warm and I don't wanna wear shoes! I do have a ped egg thingy and a pumice thingy, and I used to use them before it got this bad, get my feet kinda nice for a while then drop off again. So I'll just wait til the crack is gone then make sure I actually look after them!
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
A quick update for anyone with the same foot issues as me. I've been putting the cream on every night after a shower, then wearing socks. I reapply again before going to bed. But I've been slack at remembering in the morning before rushing out the door, and I've still been barefoot or in thongs most of the time. Tonight I decided to use the ped egg and pumice on at least the right foot to stop it getting as bad as the left and it got so much off! So I did the left staying away from the crack, it was getting loads off and the foot was actually going a different (nicer!) colour, so I gently did the crack too, in the same direction. It's made a huge difference, it's smoother so doesn't hurt or catch on anything, and the part on the sole of my foot actually looks healed a bit. Very happy with that, so I'm going to make sure I keep up with the cream and socks!
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
If you need some extra healing power Teeki, advantan ointment works super fast on skin cracks etc. It's only available with a prescription though.
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
I would suggest visiting a podiatrist.
Re: How to heal a cracked heel?
That would have been my next step if it didn't start getting better, or if it was any bigger. Thankfully it's even better again tonight and I don't think it'll be long until it's gone :)
