Is it possible for babies to have panic attacks?
Anxiety runs in the family with my father and all my siblings and myself suffering from panic attacks I'm also on meds for PND
Dd is 6 months and very clingy and in the last month seems to have panic attacks if she gets passed to someone else even my hubby and come bedtime I get her to sleep and as soon as I put her in bed she wakes and screams until I pick her up and this continues for 3-4 hours until I'm guessing she is too tired to continue
It's a normal developmental stage. They start to realize they are a separate being from you.
Sort of. Similar in that babies can become overwhelmed by their emotions and cannot regulate them (calm down without support), just as a panic attack is utterly overwhelming and feels almost impossible to get yourself out of. But for babies, it's normal. They are coming to terms with the world. Separation, strangers, change, strong sensory experiences and feelings of tiredness, illness and hunger... it's all big and new and at times very frightening.
You can help by just being there and breathing as if you were coming out of a panic state yourself. Deep, slow, diaphragm breaths and a low-toned, soothing voice. She will draw her calm from you... eventually! ;)

As Lady Neon and Santosha are saying, it’s a normal, developmental stage. Babies are not designed to be alone - they need their mother or another care giver. they need help from you to calm down and lear the world is a safe place. What do you do when she is like this? It’s OK to hold her while she sleeps or pop her in bed with you so she know you are right there for her. Babies that are held close grow up to be more confident adults.

It happened with my DD1 and is happening again with my 5 month old DD2 .. She only wants me .. She will be on with DH or other people for small amounts of time, sometimes not at all .. I don't force her to be with anyone is she is upset .. She stays with me , in my arms ;)
She is also not wanting to sleep in her cot or bassinet for day sleeps for long periods of time , so I either hold her or pop her in the ergo for sleeps , for night sleeps we have the for against out bed with the side rail off and she sleeps there and in out bed for feeds ..
This doesn't last forever but is a very normal stage they go through , just he there for your baby do everything they need , as it passes just enjoy the extra closeness with your little one .
Thanks everyone for your advice and reassurances I keep having people telling me to do controlled crying and to wean her, I tried controlled crying for one night and it just feels like we're working against each other and doesn't feel right for us the last 2 nights I've brought her into my bed for cuddles for an hour then moved her to her bed when she is asleep and she hasn't woken up
people are always full of magical advice :( We've been told so many different solutions for DSs non sleeping, none of which suited our family, and you know what? Hes sleeping now, on his own terms, it was just a matter of time.:
