I just found out I'm 4 weeks and have to get a blood test on Monday and I'm scared of needles..
Congratulations on the pregnancy! Good luck for the test, at least it's a small needle.
Thanks heaps. I'm just really nervous
Congratulations! Rest assured you will find many needle phobes on here too (myself included).
I find the best way to combat it is to ask to lay down and if they can use a "butterfly". It's an ultra thin needle with a tube, so you barely feel the needle and also you don't feel the container changes :)
Go buy some Emla cream from the chemist. Put it on 1-1.5 hours before the test and it'll numb the area, you won't feel a thing!
That's how I got through all needles during my last pregnancy.
thanks =) this is my first blood test... So if I ask them they will use a butterfly?
Thanks all these answers are so helpful =)
They should do. The places I have used always have when I have asked :)
Blood tests hardly hurt at all. Immunisations hurt way more. Just be calm and you'll be fine. It's all about frame of mind.
I just hope they will do butterfly as people say hurts less. Im just a sook lol
Welcome to BB hun and congratulations on your pregnancy. Why don't you hop on over the the Belly Buddies where you'll find lots of girls due the same time as you. The due in August 2014 thread is HERE
Thanks heaps =), it won't let me view the thread?
Hi girls, if you want it gentle, a needle and syringe is more gentle with a small needle. A butterfly has exactly the same needle as a vacutainer on it so is no different other than it takes longer cos it has to travel down the tube as well...the emla works but can shrink your veins a little so id suggest only using it if you have good veins...ask to lie down and keep your knees bent and breathe! Its only a small sting when the needle goes in, once it is in, it should not hurt! Good luck, relax and you will be fine! The longer you put it off the more anxious you will get! xxxxxxx
I hope it takes them quick to do lol. I get anxious about it. Thanks heaps though. I'll probably still use the emla as I'm so scared
hmm, not sure why as the link works for me.
It's the due in August thread I was showing you. You'll find it in the Belly Buddies forum at the top of the page.
