Toe walking at 22 months - normal?

My DS has started toe walking, mostly just with one leg but sometimes with both. I remember DD walking on her toes at some point too, but can't remember when.

My kids have an increased chance of having a movement disorder, and DS has had some vague indicators, but nothing specific so i tend to watch him a bit more closely. He has also had more medical issues (reflux, eczema...), so i'm a bit more sensitive to if he is doing ok.

So, is trying out toe walking typical for almost 2 year olds? He started walking at 1.

Haven't thought about it since, but yes, DD2 went through a phase of walking around on her tippy toes - is that what you mean?
She would have been about 18 months I suppose, she started walking at 9 months.

Toe walking is normal at that age. If they're doing it at 4-5 years old it could be associated with Autism.

DS did it from when he walked til not long ago, about 3.5. People used to comment all the time. I too was told it's normal at that age. It was on a list of indicators for Sensory Processing Disorder that I got online, not that it's definitive or anything.

Hmmm DD does this but then again my DH commented that I do it too...

My 8yo DS still does it when he's tired.

I guess I noticed more, because it has been just one foot. Olive, is this why you suggest getting it checked out, or more just because it is happening and family history?

I would get it checked out, just because when we were seeing a podiatrist about DD foot issues, she said that toe walking was a harder problem to resolve than others (DD was not walking at that time but had other feet problems) and because is mainly one leg. If tendons are shorter on one leg than the other for example easier to help the issue earlier it is looked at. DD saw a podiatrist through the council was referred by MCHN and she was very good and only about $20 a visit.

I would definitely be getting this checked out. There is an OT/podiatrist in bayswater Melbourne who specializes in this.

My DS did this at a similar age and is developmentally fine. I nonetheless agree with the others as it can be problematic or coexist with other issues.
