Bub seems distressed at night

Im making an appointment for my bub today but wondering if anyone might have some ideas. Shes 16 months old.

Once about a month ago and now the last few nights in a row, bub has woken up at around 12-1am distressed trying to rip off her nappy and grabbing her crotch. She is so tired she does it with her eyes closed even when I try to change her etc.

But everything I can think of is a UTI or thrush, but she doesnt do this at other times (day). Ive found a few examples on google but they came back negative for those things. Any ideas? Its no fun :(

DD used to do this and still does occasionally. She says her Gina is itchy when I ask now. I think sometimes just gets hot irritated in the nappies. Could be? And she can't scratch it because nappy in the way? Maybe just put some nappy cream on to soothe it to see if that works?
Is it nappies she wears at night? Different to day ones? Or maybe aware of wetting at night and not properly awake so gets distressed?

Could it be the sensation of weeing in her sleep? What if you took her nappy off and put her on the toilet/potty?

Maybe weeing wakes her?

Have you started toilet training? It might be worth trying to get her to use the toilet in the day or at least increase her toilet awareness.

Bit left field, and a little young (but not much)...could it be a night terror? DD1 never did anything weird except try to kill everyone with hers, but DS did some pretty weird stuff over the years. The only thing that makes me suggest that is the same time thing.

I'dbe thinking it's irritation too. DD still wears a nappy overnight and now that the nights are hotter if she has wet it, it's very uncomfortable for her and she doesn't like it. I can only imagine how it feels, all hot and wet in there!

DD used to complain of a 'sore' vagina with no actual sign of irritation or thrush. Not sure if it worked or it would have resolved anyway, but I gave her probiotics and she didn't seem to have any more issues.

My DS did that - it was worms! Can you de-worm her jic?

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Will worm her as its an easy one to rule out, my other two kids never had issues with it though, but who knows. She does like to play in the chicken's water and food, urgh!

Night terrors are also possible, they seem to happen around midnight, she doesnt scrunch up her eyes and scream, its like shes still trying to sleep, but when I pick her up, she kicks her legs after a few seconds. Its apparently part of her current wonder week too.

Both my dd's do that and it was worms too. Apparently they travel up into the vagina and it can sting/ irritate.

oh yes! i would treat for worms too. We just went through that with DD1 (6 years) and then i realised after we realised that she had worms that that was what was causing DD3 to have terrible nights!) apparently they are really active at night and crawl about and up and cause sore, itchiness. during the day DD1 was fine, but at night it would hit and she would get hysterical.

Okay last night was better, didnt get a chance to get to the chemist (not in a metro area and had avreally hard day) but she slept MUCH better. Lathered her with nappy cream and put leggings on and she slept well. Will be interesting to see if it happens again.
