Leg in a cast

DD (3) has a wonderful Christmas present. Any tips for managing with a young child in a leg cast?
I have no idea at present how long this will be for - she still has a review with people at the children's hospital to see if she needs full cast, etc.

A little takker at kinder (one of the younger siblings) was in a cast for about 6 weeks. I think she was closer to two though. Her Mum had her in a pram much of the time and then I loaned her my ergo so she used the back-carry a bit after that if they were going somewhere with stairs etc. Mum said there had been a whole lot of iPad, telly, colouring, playdoh, cooking, stickers etc going on. No other experience of how they managed it though. Hopefully others with first-hand experience are about.

Her cast is over the knee so I don't think I can wear her. I'll have to try, maybe, but her leg will be stuck out at a weird angle. The stroller will be getting plenty of use, as will my arms as she can't do anything.

I had a full leg cast for 8 weeks when I was 4. I was given crutches by the hospital but had trouble using them because I was too small and my leg cast was too heavy for me. My brother was only a baby, still in the pram so my parents hired a wheel chair for me. When we went shopping I'd sit in the trolley and he'd sit int he seat. I vividly remember having groceries piled up around me every week :rofl:

A friend's little one had a full cast earlier this year. He was about three. Couldn't walk at all at first, but was very determined and started pushing his little sister's walker around. Within a couple of weeks he was dragging the cast around like it was nothing. I think I even remember seeing him on FB jumping on the trampoline! So, as above, it was a very quiet beginning, lots of sedentary activities, but it didn't last long. I think his mum said sleeping was uncomfy for a few days, and it was hot, but it really didn't hold him back too much at all.

No advice but sorry to hear, hope she isn't too uncomfortable.

will she fit on a skateboard or similar trolley? I had casts as a kid and had a trolley I could lay or sit on and move myself along using my hands. it worked well at home. better if you have floor boards rather than carpet. hope it's only for a short gtime.
