Did your labours start the same way or were they completely different?
What time of day did your labours start? I have in my head this one will start around 11 again like dd. I know the chances aren't probably high lol.
Did you prefer night labour or day labour?
This won't really help as I was induced both times, but with DS he was definitely more ready than DD! He almost did it on his own and skipped the induction, and everything about it was different.
Both inductions were started at 8pm, but from then they're different. DD took a long time to get going and labour didn't really start til about 1pm,and then she was born at 5:45pm. DS was well and truly ready. My waters broke at about 6:30am, it was all go and he was here at 8:50am. I loved labour and birth during the day. I'd had a good sleep, was ready to go, and could then see out whatever was left of the day and sleep that night. I feel like I would have been all messed up if I laboured overnight and was awake, then slept during the day so I was happy that part was kind of to plan lol.
Dj- labour started at 7.35am 31hrs later at 12.50 he was born. Cx 5mins apart for 26hrs.
Vic - labour started at 3am ... He was born at 4.43am same morning.
I liked Djs labour as mentally i got ready and kinda changed my mindset and ajusted.
DD1 .. Labour started at 6pm with contractions .. She was born at 230am
DD2 .. I had a water leak at 5pm and contractions started at 930pm that same night , she was born at 1040 pm that same night ...
I would have much preferred a day labour ..
My three were all similar but then again very different.
DD first ctx 10pm, laboured all that night, the next day, the following night and she was finally born 5.35am. I was completely knackered and didn't really enjoy it at all. I was expecting a c/s, tbh.
DS1 first ctx 2am, went back to sleep, woke bout 20 mins later to another, by 6am I was in established labour and ctx were 3-5min apart, arrived at hospital 7.30am, DS1 born 9.20am. My sister and mum wanted to come as support people (they'd been invaluable when DH and I were both exhausted when DD was born) but they missed it as DH assumed we'd be there all day. Baby had other ideas.
DS2 first ctx also 2am, next 2.10am, mum arrived to look after the kids 4am, left for hospital 4.20am, arrived 4.45am, baby born 5.11am. Much faster!
I definitely preferred the boys' arrivals. I wasn't so tired, and was able to enjoy the babies after they were born.
That is how I see mine too.:
DD1 - Waters start leaking, very very weak contractions. Go to hospital to get checked and waters are green when we get there so drip set up. Contractions strong and slowly get closer together. No dilation though after fours hours of drip. 2.5 hours later DD1 born with 2 pushes. No plug loss or bloody show.
DD2 - felt very first contraction at 4am, went all day slowly getting closer and longer. Bloody show mid afternoon. Contractions never got closer then 5 minutes apart and never very strong either. DD2 born after at 2.30am after 2 pushes.
DS - Had a bloody show around 1pm and contractions started about 30 minutes later. I could feel everything as it was happening (I remember this huge sense of awerness of my body) Contractions never got closer then 3 minutes apart. DS born at 11:11pm after 2 pushes.
So DD2 and DS very similar, started the same but DS shorter. One thing that is the same with all three is that my body lets me know it is in labour, has a slow build but ends very quickly.
Both basically exactly the same, one was just shorter. Both also started at the same time, when I woke up at around 7am.
After re-reading what I just wrote, there are a few similarities with my two labours.
- My waters spontaneously broke at home with both our girls
- both labours started and ended during the day (one AM and one PM)
- DD1 came at 38+5 and DD2 at 38+4
- active labour was quite different though
DD1
- mild contractions for about an hour from 6-7am
- waters broke around 7.20am
- contractions were instantly 5 mins apart
- arrived at the hospital by 9am and contractions were 3 mins apart by then
- tough posterior labour with over an hour of pushing
- DD1 was delivered with the vacuum at 3.10pm
DD2
- lost a lot of plug that morning but no contractions, niggles, nothing!
- waters broke while vacuuming around 2pm
- only 2 mild contraction between 2 and 3.30pm and nothing really at all registered when I was monitored in the birth suite and was only 3cm dilated
- mild back pain started just after 3.30pm, midwife suggested a walk
- first major contraction hit around 3.50pm and they were instantly 3 minutes apart
- returned to the birth suite at 4pm in agony, contractions were on top of each other.
- DD2 was born 37 minutes later and only took about 3 pushes
So for me I can't imagine my waters not breaking spontaneously, going into labour at night or going into the 39th week! Lol. Time will tell when we have a third I guess :D
DS labour started around 10pm...laboured all day and DS was born via ECS at about 11pm the next night. I was exhausted after being up all day before going into labour, had horrendous back labour throughout and spent most of my time at the hossy.
With DS2, labour started at 3am - I'd had a decent sleep and focused on resting in the morning while I could - I didn't sleep until later on when I had my one minute power naps between contractions, but I was really conscious of conserving my energy as it was exhaustion which started the cascade of interventions that led to my previous CS. Laboured at home until 2:30ish before heading to hossy. DS2 was born at 4:15pm. Def prefer this to my first as I was at home for most of it and well rested too.
DD1 started around 1am and was born at 1130am
DD2 started around 6pm and was born a bit after midnight
DD3 started around 2am and was born just after 5am
DS started around 1am and was born at 430am
apart from DD2... All my babies shared a common theme of starting and delivering around the same time
