3rd fractured bone in less than a year
Quick background: mid 30's. Reasonably healthy, smoker, carrying extra weight. Good diet with regular multivitamin daily.
Today I had my 3rd fracture confirmed. It's in my scapula (shoulder blade) it an unusual bone to break.
1st fracture was my wrist back in March last year. I tripped over a small change in surface and fell. Broke my fall with my arm. Wrong cast applied and fracture extended further (nearly doubling in 10days) 6 weeks in full cast.
2nd was during an altercation with DH's ex. My finger got tangled in her hair and broke. Clear spiral fracture just where my wedding ring sits. Splint for 4 weeks and ongoing occupational therapy.
Finally 3rd fracture. Pushed against wall by a patient (mental health nurse) and landed against brick window frame. Fractured across top of scapula but not to the edge of the bone.
Seriously?? Would you push for a bone density scan? Other than staying on my feet, not getting into fights and finding a less physical job what else can I do?
Re: 3rd fractured bone in less than a year
Yes I'd get a bone density scan.
ive had one before due to eating disorder, and mine came up as a poor result yet never had a broken bone.
It could just be you were unlucky but doesn't hurt ruling it out.
Re: 3rd fractured bone in less than a year
Smoking is a factor in osteoporosis, so you definitely need to check it out!

I think it might be a good idea. No harm in having it done. Here's hoping for no more breaks!!
