Unsure

On Boxing Day evening (recent history of two week cold symptoms, fevers, plus viral rash) DS (19mths) was in his high chair eating some leftover Christmas Turkey on the bone. When suddenly he grabbed his neck saying ow owwww ow then went extremely pale and quiet. Not responding to us when talking to him, just had a vacant stare and arms were floppy. Got him out ans took him to the bath (excuse my randomness of bathing him but thought maybe it would on the off chance pick him up). He was still very pale and wouldn't respond to things as normal, all of a sudden become more limp and vomited once in the bath. Got him out immediately and wrapped him in a towel, now even more floppy and difficult to keep awake as eyes were closing. Dressed him and got DH to ring his parents to come watch DD as I frantically gathered things for Bub and DS so we could go straight to ED. On the way in the car he went to sleep, I watched him from front seat as back seat was full of car seats. Tried to pinch his feet to wake him and literally no response at all. Rubbed his chest hard and got a slight movement in his arms. Left my hand on his belly to make sure he continued to breathe (yes I was freaking out!). Finally got to hospital, when getting him out of the car he did wake but was extremely vacant and was hard to keep him awake. Nurse seen him straight away and OBs were normal but she said something didn't look right about him so we got straight in. Dr only quickly listened to chest and then gave him hydralite icy pole (this kid has never has sugars) so he started to perk up but still wasn't himself. OBs done again and all within normal limits. Was kept in for observation for few hours then sent home. DH slept with him that night.

Next day I wasn't happy that they hadn't looked in his throat so took him to see GP (some random as regular dr booked out) looked in throat and said a bit red but not bad.

So since then took days for him to come right as he would tire and get grizzly quickly. Still does get grizzly much quicker than usual and randomly will still point to his neck and say ow ow ow and cry. Unsure what to do at this point as don't want to seem like I'm being concerned for nothing...but any ideas what could be up? And what I should do?

If he getting a second opinion from a dr that you trust. Can you ring your normal dr and explain the situation

I'd certainly get him looked at by your normal GP xxx

Given that this started while he was eating a turkey off the bone, I'd be asking for an X-ray or ultrasound on his neck at the least.

Eenee that sounds frightening. Trust your great instinct and keep going back. Demand an ultrasound or x-ray or similar, maybe bloods?

My first thought when reading this was that he could possibly have something lodged in his throat / airway.

I'd get checked again. Did you tell them that he was eating at the time he went unresponsive etc?

In that kind of circumstance I would have rung an ambulance rather than taking him there yourself.

I'd take him straight back to the hospital, for an ultrasound. Something doesn't sound right.

Totally understand your hesitancy to go back over possibly nothing. But my dr told me once that most doctors would prefer to see a child and it be nothing, than to not see them and it be something. At the very least I'd be calling your normal doc and explaining the situation and asking to get in urgently. Failing that I'd take him to hospital (is there a different one you could go to if you're worried about showing up again?). Just keep telling them that something isn't right.

I had appointment for the kids today at chiro, when it was DS's turn he said his neck was that bad it was like he'd been in a car accident (he hasn't). So will take him back to GP and get him checked out.

Hi if its any help we have had a nasty gastro in our house my 5 year old started with high fevers (very hard to control) with both panadol & nurofen, cold like symptoms then lerthagic weak, sleepy took her to the GP, then the ED, sent home later that night pead said there was a thing goign around high temps for anythign up to 2 weeks..she seemed to be gettign better then vomitted a few days later a series of times, next day had the runs. Then off her food for about a week more. My dad got it from her, then my youngest got it she seems to have a slightly different set of symptoms but it includes a sore back & knees, then my husband and finally myslef got milder versions of it.. I now get the back & knee pain and very attractive (not ;() shade of yellow green pale white!!! But I guess by now it has run its course I hope he is feeling better.
