Getting rid of the dummy

5 days ago DS,19 months, popped his 6th dummy in 5 days. We didn't have anymore in the house so I suggested to DH that we not get anymore and wean DS from the dummy now that his teeth are through.

My brilliant sleeper has turned into the sleep monster. He wakes multiple times a night and cracks the poos when we try and settle him. He is inconsolable and just screams in his cot or thinks it's playtime because usually when he wakes it is playtime because he has had 8 hours sleep not 1.

How long does it take before they improve? Please tell me they improve.
Is there anything you can suggest that I can do to help my little sleep monster?

I took my sons off him at 8mths, so a lot younger but we went cold turkey he was very attached to his dummy and we were up zillions of times In the night putting it back In, but after 3 days he no longer needed it. We rocked an soothed him In other ways till be was used to it.

Other friend of mine also went cold turkey at 18 mths and they too said 3 days before she forgot about it. Best way is too get rid of all dummies in the house so they can't sneakily find them.

We weaned DS off the dummy at about 27mo. It took about a week for him to go to sleep easily without it and about 8 weeks to start sleeping through again. He has been an excellent sleeper since then. He goes to sleep in minutes and rarely wakes overnight now. It's worth sticking with but it was a hard couple of months for me as I also had a newborn at the time.

Thanks ladies, I am just going to keep going, no turning back now. But I am glad he will probably go back to being a good sleeper again eventually.
